Rank: N/A

EC's:
Siemens semifinalist (engineering project)

3 published abstracts second author, 2 international conferences 2nd author. Submitted an abstract first author for publication. Will soon submit manuscript for publication in a peer review journal as first author (I might be able to do two. I have another project with data I can write about if I finish on time.) As a project in my laboratory that is somewhat similar to my project now was just accepted for publication in a peer-review journal, I see this as very likely (though it's never certain).

National merit semifinalist.

4 years of football starter on JV and Varsity. Captain for one game. Will probably win scholar athlete award and be nominated for top 11 scholar in Long Island.

Completed all 8 levels of ABRSM for piano. Have A+ level 6 NYSSMA for piano

Founder and president of Japanese Cultural and Anime Club

Secretary of Psychology Club

Secretary of Stock Market Club

400+ hours volunteering

Honors mentioned Research Association Fair (not the Siemens project. From last year)

AP Scholar with Distinction

National Honors Society

Spent a lot of time on Columbia sups (since the summer) and common app. Teachers say they are amazing (we'll see if that's hyperbole). Recs are good (includes mentor rec). As a supplement I submitted to Columbia my abstract that I submitted for publication as first author.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to bolster my extracurricular portfolio further? I am already submitting to Intel STS and other science competitions and will be working to finish the publications on time. Most of my time will be spent on college essays I have not yet done for regular decision... but I am always willing to bolster my resume further. Any suggestions?

I think you have a great shot. Your ECs look fine to me. Highlight the science/engineering stuff in your list of ECs. Good luck!

Columbia ED: Reach to high reach (Asian)

Nothing special…

Your published works as well as your high stats gives you a very good chance. 20more doesnt know what he’s talking about. Good luck!

I’ll second @yodude51‌ - you are as good a candidate as any. It doesn’t mean you will get in, but your chances should be excellent.

You are definitely one of the more competitive applicants for Columbia and your academic profile is right in line with those of many admitted students. Your 3 published abstracts will definitely help. Obviously Columbia’s a reach for anyone, but it’s definitely not a FAR reach for you.

I think you have a pretty solid chance- research matters a ton. Siemens semi is pretty impressive.
