Just let me know what you think!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this summer I'm going to be a Governor's Page for a week

honestly speaking, i think your GPA and class rank will hurt you, especially because you're OOS.

Berkeley doesn't care about legacy. Your GPA and rank is low. It doesn't matter anymore whether your GPA goes up or not because they only look at junior and sophomore grades. If you get in which is unlikely, because you're OOS, you're going to get in because of ECs and Volunteering. Also, are you sure they take SATs so late and what are your SAT IIs?

I'm a junior, so I wont be applying till next year zuser...
And i'm signed up to take the French SAT II and Math Level 1 SAT II
My projected SAT score is a 2000, and hopefully I will be able to get higher than that

take the Math level 2, i don't think Cal regards the Level 1 test too highly

To OP -- try for higher on everything, honestly. If you end up with a weighted GPA of around 4.2+ (i.e. assuming somehow your grades go up for junior year due to this semester), and an SAT of 2200+, then I think we're talking much better chances. To give you an idea of what to aim for. If your school is good, that'll probably be taken into account, but still aim for higher on all fronts, as I have noticed some good students from great schools with lower such numbers getting hurt by the admissions process at schools like LA and Berkeley.

Try to get near perfect SAT II's. It might be necessary to account for other things that're hurting your profile.

a SAT score of around 2000 isn't going to cut it for OOS, Berkeley, esp. engineering doesn't take Math 1 SAT II, only Math 2. Whether you're a junior or not, you're GPA isn't going to rise too much from one semester, and your GPA isn't going to cut it for OOS. Not trying to bring you down, but you shouldn't get your hopes up.

thanks for all the responses! yeah, i mean, it would obviously be a major reach and who knows if i will even really apply there. I am just curious about what people think about my chances, even if they are really low!

You never know, however.

The UC's may be accepting OoS in favor of the more money they would receive soon, so you may not be too bad off. Try for UCLA though, from what I've gone through, the friends who've made that are the ones who have good grades and lots of EC's.

But under normal circumstances, it'd be a stretch to say you'd have a safe bet at Cal.

I think most of these responses are a bit harsh. I know people who go to Berkeley that had relatively mediocre GPAs and good ECs. It really just depends on whether the person that happens to be looking over your application thinks you're worth it or not. Write good personal statements!

Legacy-Mom went for grad and Dad went for undergrad+grad
UCs Don't care about legacy

I'm a junior and my current unweighted gpa = 3.58 weighted=3.9 (should go up)
That seems okay..
you know that UCs only count 8 weighted courses, right?
My sister got in with 3.6~3.7 UW, but she had a stellar essay.

SAT: Waiting for score from march SAT
My current class rank is 29/166
that's top 17.4%
which is okay..
but if you were within top 10% it'd been better.

White Female
In one of the most, if not the most, competitive public school districts in North Carolina
that's good.

other than that, your ECs are good
but Berkeley is known to put more weight on numbers... so becareful

Make sure you write a STELLAR essay :)

My sister got in with
SAT
CR: 690
Writing: 750 with essay 11
Math: 750

Chem: 680
Math IIC: 740
French: 660

ECs:
School council (9,10,11)
Designer of school show (11,12)

that's it.
if you want her essay PM me, and I'll ask my sis if its okay to send it and I'll send it to you.

btw it matters what major you're applying for. Engineering is perhaps the hardest to get in.

unless you're in letters and science. apparently they count you as undecided regardless of what you put.

For college, would Haas be the toughest?
or do you apply for Haas in your sophomore year?

That's grad school, no?

You don't apply for that immediately while applying for undergrad.

Haas is pretty damn difficult, from what I've heard.

Oh so berkeley has no undergraduate business school?
that's weird...
I'm from Canada and basically every canadian universities have undergrad business major.

I'm sure there are business related majors and the likes, but Haas is graduate level studies of econ and all that great stuff.

Haas School of Business - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

you have to apply for Haas in your sophomore year at Cal, and from what I heard it's pretty damn hard to get into, I have friends who went there and were academically stellar but were rejected from Haas

btw you have to take the SATII Math 2C, 1C doesn't count for Cal

WHy Berkeley

You live in North Carolina, with your stats and if you get good SAT scores I would think that Chapel Hill should be a really good match for you.

And it is cheaper

And it also has good undergraduate business

And their basketball team will win the national championship this year( i feel it)

Youll be paying 50000 a year for an education u can get for less then half of that at Chappel Hill
