SAT 2: 720 USHist, 700 MathIIC
UCGPA: 3.84
Cal. Resident
Very Competitive Public HS
8 APs by graduation
major: comp. sci

essays:good/above average
ecs:average

any chances appreciated!

In almost definitely.

At above ^ - That's his UC GPA, not his UW.
What's your UW and class rank?

UC Davis does not consider class rank.
UW GPA is 3.7+ or something around there.

a friend of mine wanted some feedback:

male/asian/CA resident
5 APs by grad
applying to college of biological sciences

SATI: 1850
SATIIs: 630mathIIC, 620bio
UC GPA: 3.6ish
ECs: not much, like 1 thing
essays: he says they're at least passable, but minimal
so in general, ECs/essay aren't too good, hoping on stats

any opinions appreciated, i know i didn't give much

btw, i've heard that w/ the exception of Cal, LA, maybe SD, the other UCs are pretty numbers-based, like if you have tests/grades you're most likely in
is this true for UCD? no better place to ask it than here lol

UC Davis considers class rank if you are in the top 4%

Although it is true that ELC students, top 4% at the high school, are given credit, class rank is still not considered when calculating ELC. It is common for highest rank student to not be selected for ELC. For more information on how ELC students are selected please see Welcome to ELC .

Relentless355, did you see that was UC GPA and not UW? (Although UW is pretty close)

Thanks for the chances ^

can someone chance my friend? he's pretty nervous about it even though he can't really do anything about it now

^ (10 chars)

^ I'm not sure about the chances, we can never tell until all applications have been reviewed, but Davis is perhaps the most “number based” campus in the system. For more information please see Freshmen: Application Criteria for Selection Process

dmission: Yes, I did. I'd be surprised if you didn't get accepted. You got everything going for you: good GPA, SATs, lots of APs, and a competitive HS. Safe match, definitely. You probably have a small shot at SD, but you should be able to safely choose between your mid-tier (Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara). I recommend Davis, of course. :)

sports: He'll probably get into one mid-tier UC. I had very similar stats (3.6/1810) and I was accepted to Davis but rejected from SB/I. I'd say High Match. Match at Santa Cruz and Riverside.

Note that their is a big difference between the people who are admitted and the people who actually attend. While the average GPA may be 3.9 and SAT scores 1800~, the people who actually attend have lower statistics. Whenever I ask any of my friends (actual freshman who live on my dorm floor) about their SAT scores and GPA, they always respond in the 3.5-3.8 range with 1600-1800 SAT scores. My old HS friends who attend Davis have similar statistics. And to put all of this into perspective, half the people on my floor have to take bonehead English (and some of those people don't even pass, despite my English major guidance). Don't get me wrong, there are some people who have high statistics and went to Davis instead of UCLA or UCB, but the average attendee surely doesn't have a 3.9 and 1850 with tons of ecs.

thanks UCD admissions/relentless

ya, thanks
