Updated Ivy Acceptance

After last year's admission cycle where my S was rejected by
Princeton we all re-grouped and decided not to give up and not let
him put aside his dream. The art schools that he prepared so long to
attend came up short with scholarship funds, which was a catalyst in
his desire to change directions and study Art History. Also the
visit to a university convinced him that a Liberal Arts education
would be much more challenging and a better fit. After re-applying
this year here are his results….

Brown University - Rejected
Columbia University - Accepted

Harvard University - on the Waiting List
Lafayette College -Accepted
Williams College –Accepted
Amherst College-Accepted
And last but not least Princeton University- ACCEPTED

We submitted a 12 pg. Course description in subject order according
to grade.
A graded transcript.
A mile long book list.
Parent recommendation
Music teacher rec
Logic teacher rec
Recs from 2 authors
Rec from acquisition head of publishing house
And probably the most important item….An essay on why he wanted to
study Art History

Wow !!! Your son being a homeschooler, accepted by all of those competitive schools is truly an amazing complishment! Being a homeschooler myself (sophomore), your son is truly an inspriration to me :D! Would you mind sharing his SAT scores/numerical stats with us?

It must be a tough decision to decide which school to attend out of all those prestigious schools! Congratulations :)!!

How many SAT IIs did he take? Did he do well on them?

I suppose when I apply to colleges, I'll send transcripts from 4 different institutions where I have taken college courses and then a home-made transcript, along with recs and the usual. I hope that colleges don't feel overwhelmed, I don't want to annoy any of them.

I thought Brown had a great track with homeschoolers. It's interesting to see who rejects whom and who accepts whom. It seems like such a crapshoot.

Congrats to your son!

Wow.. that's amazing

Congratulations! That is wonderful. I am glad your son was able to use his rejection as a catalyst for change, rather than just get depressed and blame the schools, as I hear some students doing. I'm sure there was a period of depression, but it sounds like he came out of it and made good use of his time. What an inspiration!

fids....Don't worry about over sending recs as long as they back up other things on the application. With homeschoolers it appears they need more supplemental items when they fight over decisions in committee. Columbia for example asks for 5 SAT2 results. We sent only 4 and none were quantative.

I took only 3 SAT IIs and none of them were science based, so I probably need to do that. Were his scores exceptional?
