SORORITY RANKINGS

Upper Mid: Theta, Skrappa, AXO
Bottom Mid: Chi O, DG, ADpi
Bottom: SDT, Pi Phi, Zeta
Bad: AEphi, AGD

FRAT RANKINGS

There are two categories for the frats: on campus houses and off campus houses

Best On Campus Houses:

Phi Kappa Psi (PHI PSI)

A solid group of guys, mix with the hottest girls on campus. Their house is located right next to ZBT and is across from Oxford housing. It’s an average Frat house, nothing special though. Their parties are hit and miss and some girls complain they just watch the brothers play beer pong during bar pregames. They went on Ski Trip with Alpha Phi this year which lead to them asking them to be pregame partners. This year they were with Kappa and were in the “pit”. Next year they will be pregaming at Theta Chi’s pregame house. Although its away from the action, they are known for good pregames. They have a big St. Patrick’s day party with Pike. The majority of the brothers are rich out of staters mostly east and west coasters. Bring your A game in beer pong for Rush. Pledging is averagely hard.

Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE)

If you like to party, you’re going to want to rush here. They have the best party room on campus, and their house, known as the “Pike Castle”, is second only to SAE. The mix with the top tier sororities on campus but also maintain good relations with former top tiers AXO and Skrappa. They are known for late-nights this year after being on sopro a good part of the first semester. They were pregame partners with Skrappa this year and due to being shut down early at the first few pregames they did joint pregames with Psi U and Phi Psi the rest of the year. They went on Ski Trip with Kappa this year with was a big move, and will be with Tri Delt as pregame partners next year. They are in the “Pit” next year. They have a nice mix of Michigan and out of staters. They are known to be very cocky and full of themselves though and rumors of brotherhood problems are always leaking. Be fratty during rush. Pledging is supposedly solid, not too much not too little.

Theta Chi

Have a good location but their house isn’t that good for parties. Big on drugs and are pretty big potheads. Hang out with a great variety of girls in addition to the hot ones. Pregamed with alpha phi this year. Had good pregames. Next year they join pike and SAE in the pit and are going to be with kappa. They rent houses around the main house created the “ox box.” Hazing is said to be not so easy. A Lot of maryland, new york and coast kids. A weird mix of stoners, socially awkward kids and cool normal kids. Lot of people wonder why they are so popular but they are.

Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPI)

The most jewish house on campus. Have an absolutely horrible house. It’s a converted apartment building, and their parties happen in the basement which get sweaty and disgusting within minutes of the party starting. The location is also bad, its up past Oxford Housing. Have a bunch of good guys and a decent amount of outcasts as well. A mix of guys who scream Zionist Jew and normal jewish guys. Mix mostly with Jewish Sororites but have been attempting to get in good relations with the other sororities. They were pregame partners with tridelt this year. The pregame at the red house on church and are pretty good but have a reputation for being shut down early. The area is too small for the amount of people they get. They went on ski trip with Theta and will mostly be pregame partners with them this year. If you’re an attractive enough jewish guy and want a bid with easy pledging do aepi. Although their pledging is getting worse as the years go on. They have a huge pledge class which means there are usually clichés within the pledge class. If you are Jewish you will be stopping here during rush no doubt.

Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI)

A nice well rounded group of guys. Mostly old lax bros from the east coast. They are pretty athletic and this year they competed against SAE in the mudbowl and even though they lost they still beat a number of other frats during playoffs. They are known as the boy scouts on campus. They do tons of charity events. There is never chatter about FIJI parties on campus though. They hang out with AXO mostly, they were also pregame partners with them this year, went on ski trip with them and are most likely going to be pregame partners with them again this year. They pregame at their senior house which changes every year and have small but fun pregames. They have a awesome house across from pike and near Alpha Phi but don’t make use of it. Their rush is pretty casual and they have a easy pledge term.

Sigma Alpha Mu (SAMMY)

They have a good house, parties held in basement. Next door to pike. Pretty average on all fronts, lower than aepi in terms of jewish frats. Solid group of guys, hang out a lot with SDT and Chi-o. A little shorter and less attractive than aepi but still mostly average jewish looking kids. Hazing is pretty bad and supposedly a big time commitment. Pretty sure they are pre game partners with chi-o or SDT next year. Throw a pretty good football pre game but the spot is a little far away from most of the action.

Psi Upsilon (PSI U)

Traditionally known for throwing one of the better football pre games. They had pike’s old pregame house this year and pregamed with sdt. Have a good house and also host winterfest, one of the biggest events in greek life in the winter. Were in deep **** with IFC last year and were on sopro for a while. Around 2/3 Jewish 1/3 Christian but aren’t really know as a jewish frat. Went on ski trip with skrappa this year, will probably ask them for pregame partners. Know as a big drug frat. Wanna be theta chi is a good call.

Other On Campus Frats:
Sig Ep
Chi Psi
Chi Phi
DU
--there are 36 frats on campus, the ones not listed arent very well known or very popular but may be a good fit for you

Best OFF Campus Houses:
These are houses that have violated the rules so many times that the university has removed their charter and they now operate independently. This is not allowed, but since these chapters own their houses, there isn't much the university can do to make them leave. So instead, they've started threatening everyone who goes there to party. The new rule is that if any more than 25 girls from the same house are found at one of these houses, their sorority will be put on social probation. This was a huge problem on St. Patty's day this year, which resulted in a lot of sororities being put on so pro.

SAE

Have the best house on campus. Great location. A very crazy group of guys, most southern frat. Hang out a lot with alpha phi and tridelt even though they aren’t on campus. They were kicked off for hazing and probably wont return anytime soon. Host mudbowl every year and are automatically in it. They were in the “Pit” this year and will be next year also. They cant have official pregame partners but girls that pregame other places always end up at the pit. They were able to rush a good group of kids this year but it will get harder and harder if they remain off campus. They haze hard and since they aren’t under control of IFC anymore there isn’t much stopping them.

ZBT

Live next to pike. Host awesome welcome week parties on their porch and backyard. Extremely Jewish. V-necks, tight jeans, stars of David, and nice cars. A lot of New York kids. They have one of the big football pregames, attracting the Jewish girls in kappa and other top sororities. Do some joint parties with Pike since they are close to eachother. Thought they were getting back on campus this year but instead their nationals unrecognized them. They have to leave their house next year, and are now known as “OZ”. Always throw a huge St. Patricks day party. There pledging is one of the worst on campus.

"SIG"

A social club and their house is so far away from everyone. VERY long island. Lose out to rushes who want a frat that is more involved and front and center. They throw good pregames at the brownstone and hang out with the jewish sororities. Wanna be ZBT. They hang out a lot with aepi and zbt. If they had a closer house they would be better.

Reply with any comments or thoughts on the list

What’s the story on Pi Kappa Phi?

Could we maybe get a more indepth view of the sororities like you did for the frats? Please and thanks!

how are the upper tier fraternities on taking sophomores?

As someone in greek life at Michigan. The first poster is pretty much accurate in description of the top fraternities on campus.

“What’s the story on Pi Kappa Phi?”

Since there are over 30 fraternities at umich. It’s hard to give such an in depth description of all of them. I’d say PiKapps along with Chi Phi, Chi Psi, DKE, Phi Delt and Sig Ep comprise the range of “middle tier” frats that can give you a great experience at Michigan and i’d recommend for guys who are interested in Greek Life, but don’t feel like they fit into the top frats. These frats also tend to throw a lot more open parties that are open to the university throughout the year so they feel a little more inclusive than the top ones, which basically only have open parties during rush.

“how are the upper tier fraternities on taking sophomores?”

You definitely have your work cut out for you if you want to get in the BEST fraternities on campus. I’d say you better hope you have something about you that’ll really impress the guys or know a lot of guys in the chapter because the best fraternities don’t really want sophomore pledges. The same goes for Winter Rush, which is much smaller and a little more difficult because most fraternities don’t want big pledge classes so they will only take 6-12 instead of over 20.

Winterfest is this weekend, hosted by Psi U. It’s basically an invite only inter-fraternity broomball tournament that has both on and off-campus fraternities in it. In my opinion, the ten fraternities invited to this plus Psi U making eleven compose what is clearly the actual relevant group of houses on campus. The fraternities competing this year are Phi Psi, Theta Chi, Pike, Sig, SAE, Fiji, SigEp, Sammy, AEPi, and ZBT (OZ?), along with Psi U hosting. Those are in no real order listed there although there is more of a defined ranking system within these houses. Outside of that there are another 20-25 or so fraternities that may be a good fit for you, but they are usually smaller and have less of an impact on the social scene.

While I agree with most of the things mentioned above, I think there are clear distinctions in the middle tier for fraternities. DKE, Pikapps, Chi Phi, Phi Delt, Sigma Chi, and Chi Psi are all two to four pledge classes away from being relevant and maybe jumping up to consistently mixing with sororities like AXO, Skrappa, and others. The bottom mids would be DU (still in need of building numbers), Shady (bad rep, but still can pull), and Delta Chi, with everybody else below them.

What do you need to do to get into top tier frats?

Do you need to be rich/an athlete?

to be blunt you need to be attractive especially for pike, but just generally be a normal kid who can socialize with girls and just chat with the guys who are going to be rushing you

Top Tier:

Kappa Kappa Gamma (Kappa)

Legendary pledge class. very hot, very rich, very jappy. think they’re better than everyone else and go to their favorite frats instead of scheduled mixers “kappa kappa no show” pledge class is split by religion and there is a lot of drama. girls are overall stuck up and *****y. girls were “too cool” in high school went to clubs instead of normal parties. ski trip with pike pregaming with Theta Chi next year.

Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delt)

Known for being very fun at parties and for being slutty. “try delt” mostly tall, blonde and hot, but going down. girls are all outgoing and friendly but ditzy. probably the most diverse house which is not saying much at all. they’re friends with each other and there is surprisingly little in house drama. girls were cheerleaders, quaterback’s girlfriends, and prom queens in high school. competitive with phi. ski trip with theta chi pregaming with PIKE next year

Alpha Phi:
Not as hot this year, but the older girls are all hot. A LOT of girls dropped due to cattiness, but the ones that stuck around are friends, not a ton of in house drama since first semester. They’re like tri delt but “classy” meaning they’re stuck up instead of slutty. they’re preppy and used to be girls that were homingcoming/prom queens in high school but now they’re the ones who were never cool but suddenly are in college. competitive with tri delt. ski trip with phi psi pregaming with phi psi next year.

Second Tier:

Alpha Chi Omega (A Chi O, AXO)

“Good Christian girls” a lot of sweet midwesterners but some are very catty. the house is cliquey. some girls go out some never do. some are cute some are gross. overall not a lot of fun. very obsessed with their ranking and moving up. really really want to be top tier and seem to hate tri delt/phi. they are very good at rush. in high school they were that girl in the popular group no one was actually friends with or just random girls. besties with fiji. pregaming and ski trip with them.

Sigma Kappa (Skrappa)
used to be better but are very sloppy this year. Outdrink the guys and throw up everywhere. girls are nice and mostly friends. overall pretty trashy. in high school they were the not so hot party animal. got turned down by fiji for and are pregaming with psi u next year.

Kappa Alpha Theta (Theta)
Japs. jappity jap jap. pregamming with aepi next year.

Third Tier:

Delta Gamma (DG)
like axo but even less fun. don’t go out and not very cute

Chi Omega (Chi O)
jewish DG

rest don’t matter.

What is rushing like at Michigan? When do you rush?

rush for girls is in september. you have to fill out a form and pay like $20 online before hand.
[Becoming a Member | Greek Life](http://greeklife.umich.edu/article/becoming-member-2)
and tri delts website actually describes it pretty well
[University of Michigan Tri Delta](http://www.umichddd.com/#!recruitment/vstc2=mixers)

can anyone explain rush for frats? How hard is it to get into a frat like phi psi or pike? any tips

@GoBlue3399,Read this recent thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/1477186-greek-life.html

As a parent, I’m not really impressed by the descriptions above… Booze, drugs, hazing, slutty, trashy, labeling… and these are University clubs?

Terrible descriptions of sororities…

They’re fraternities/sororities. A very small percentage (emphasis on the size) of those in the Greek System have such a warped perception that they actually care about things like this. A lot of people who care about these sort of threads have very low post counts, often only pertaining to topics like this. They have an agenda, and they try to (poorly) accomplish that.

Everyone should just ignore threads like these. Rankings are irrelevant for the simple reason that how you feel about a group of people should be decided from your experience, not what others say, which is what the point of rushing is anyways. Anyone who considers it important to fake relationships in order to join a certain group should rethink their priorities.'

And GoBlue3399, you’ll get a sense when you rush. I say just be yourself, because as I described that works best for both sides. Your perception is more important than the perception of anyone else.

What’s sorority rush like for sophomores? I didn’t rush this year (I’m a freshman), but I think I want to next year. Would it be worth it? Do sororities take sophomores as new members? I have some acquaintances in sororities, but not close friends. Would my options be limited just because I’m a sophomore? Would it weird to be in a pledge class with freshman and thus have mostly freshman friends?
If anyone who rushed as a sophomore at Michigan is reading this, please respond!

Greek life makes social life easier, plan and simple. I didn’t rush until fall after realizing after welcome week, open parties are non-existant and you will be going to house parties which are less frequent and a whole different level of partying compared to the craziness of frat parties. In greek life you don’t have to work to go out, there will be always something going on and something to do on any given night compared to having to figure out plans when you want to go out as a GDI. You can pick and choose your nights in greek life instead of having to take advantage of the few house parties that do occur.

as a freshman last year, here’s another perspective on sorority rankings:

delta delta delta, alpha phi, kappa kappa gamma

sigma kappa, alpha chi omega

kappa alpha theta, chi omega

sigma delta tau, delta gamma, adpi, pi phi, zeta

delta phi epsilon, alpha gamma delta

alpha epsilon phi

ddd- stereotypical sorority. known for having a lot of hot blonds, but that is changing with recent pc’s adding more diversity. generally known for being slutty, all girls sleep in same room aka bunkers (big room with tons of bunk beds)—some girls love it some hate it. great location, beautiful house, fun girls.

phi- obsessed with rank, has a lot of caddy girls which is the reason they have so many “drops” after rush. beautiful girls, lots of brunettes, love mixing with theta chi. pretty house close to lots of frats. generally thought of as having bad sisterhood because of caddyness.

kkg- lots of japs, wealthy stuck up girls who are self absorbed. house is divided by jewish and non jewish girls, because of this a some girls hardly know each other. hot gorgeous girls with a nice house, but elitist mentality. dont rush here if you don’t have a thick skin, girls can be very cliquey

skrappa- known for partying hard and having an “i dont care” attitude, but these girls are really chill and down-to-earth which is why they have this rep. frats love them cause they know how to party and they have a lot of gorgeous girls. don’t put up with the caddy drama other sororities have which is why a lot of girls want a bid from here

axo- really try to maintain a “nice girl” reputation. won’t put up with girls who jepordize this. have a lot of really nice, pretty girls. girl next door sorority, love mixing with fiji. have moved up in rank over the years, have a nicely located house next to kappa.

theta- very, very, jappy. nice house in good location. have gotten in trouble for primarily rushing jewish girls when they are nationally a christian sorority.

chi o- jewish girls that aren’t japs—have highest gpa on campus. some really sweet girls.

SDT- japs, who had rumors of bad hazing last year. lots of east coast, NY and NJ girls

dg- “delta grandma” some cute girls, known for having a goody two shoes rep, always mix with sigep

adpi- wholesome, sweet girls. have had trouble with not showing up to mixers, so some frats stopped wanting to mix with them.

pi phi- funny, nice girls. not well known on campus though

zeta- recently came back on campus after being kicked off. trying to move up, but girls are average

dphie- jewish girls. some nice, others are obnoxious

agd- sadly known as “alpha grab a donnut” they usually get the rejects from other houses. girls seem to be very involved on campus though

aephi- very small. take any girls that don’t get bids elsewhere.

join a sorority if you’re looking for a smaller community within this big school, a weekly social schedule, and sisterhood (though this may lack at some houses…)

sophomores are generally not taken from the upper houses, but it really just depends. rush and see what happens. being a legacy certainly helps with that too.
