Levi’s is good, but right now, in my area, people are trending towards Lucky Brand and Seven Jean.

At my sons middle school the boys don’t really wear jeans. My son refuses to wear them. Athletic pants are the only things he will consider.

Those are really, really comfortable.

I would not recognize my brother if he were in anything other than his cargo pants. He has the black pair that goes with his pretty blue button-down, the olive ones that blend into the sweater of mine which he borrowed last week, and countless others. I still remember hunting down size 28x32…

In my part of the country Levi’s and AEO jeans are popular right now.

Eh, who needs pants?

Everyone. Everyone needs pants.

California wise, we’re shorts all the way.

@mrneph, try wearing shorts in NJ in Feb…

My son refuses to wear jeans or t-shirts. Polos and khakis all year, with short sleeves and shorts most of the year no matter how cold it gets. A dress code will be no hardship for him, although he doesn’t quite get the part about tucking in the shirt.

I prefer khakis over jeans myself. I actually like dress code :P

My DD has a uniform now and I am only just realizing how much clothing we need to buy. Her wardrobe is comprised of this uniform, a lot of athletic gear and bar/bat mitzvah fancy dresses. I bought her some shorts and one pair of white jeans from J. Crew a couple of weeks ago and it was a small fortune.

Haha, yeah we’d freeze our legs off.

I have had a uniform for the past 5 years… Yep, I got some real shopping to do… :P

@RockComet, same! I’ve been looking online and just been thinking, wow this is not going to be cheap :))

ikr Only one thing to do start in advance xp I have already started xp little by little the suitcase is filling up :3

Personally, at least for girls, we love Target. It’s relatively inexpensive and really good quality for what the cost is, plus it’s cute. Forever 21 is also a great option, as is Charlotte Russe. We also like Gap and Old Navy. You can put together some really great outfits if you work hard enough to find the clothes and items.

Brands and stores, of varying prices, we have found to be popular (for girls)… are:

Gap
H&M
Vineyard Vines
Patagonia
Nike (especially Tempo shorts and Nike Pro)
Some Abercrombie (the buttondown shirts and skinny khakis)
Men’s 1/4 zip sweaters (Polo, Southern Tide, VV, etc). to wear over dresses and/or skirts
J. Crew

Try to get basics and dresses at places like H&M and then add a few of the more expensive brands to accessorize.
And, as has been said before, err on the side of “too little” until Parent’s Weekend. Each school will have variations on what everyone wears and also there are differences in dress codes. Try to get basics until PW, and then you can see what is still needed and/or wanted.

PS don’t forget outlets of the above brands. J Crew even has outlet items online. I found many sales at this time of year last year at J Crew and Abercrombie. Also - American Eagle for khaki-type pants and some sweaters.

We are going from uniforms in the Northeast to no uniforms in Southern California. DD will start school with just the basics, and then we will have a fun shopping day over parents’ weekend. She really likes a combination of Urban Outfitters, Zara and vintage/thrift shop things.

I’ve had an uniform since kindergarden. At least I get an excuse for a random shopping spree.
