Updates about USC Merit Scholarships

NorCal here, received nothing but some people have said they got a letter today.

@caimom, I’m in NorCal and have sadly not gotten anything. :(

better to check under “admission/rsvp for admitted students program” than to wait for your mail.

Nothing on USConnect either…sighs.

To follow-up with madbean’s post - all of those that I am aware of last year who were admitted in January without the Trustee or Presidential were awarded Dean’s scholarships in late February.

Question…are all accepted National Merit Semifinalists (who have a good shot to become a finalist and receive the guaranteed Presidential) invited to the Presidential interview?

inflore, no they are not. They have just as good a chance as any applicant of being put into the running for the non-NMF Presidential (which doesn’t really make sense–but does include an interview on campus at ExploreUSC and holds a slight chance of being upgraded to the Trustee) or Trustee. NMF who are admitted to USC (not all are, but it’s a definite boost) automatically get the NMF Presidential if they list USC their first choice, plus they also get an additional $1,000/year as well.

Thanks for responding. I’m an NMSF and was accepted as a presidential finalist, so I was surprised to get a non-trustee interview. Yay!

I just wanted to shine a little hope down on those that haven’t heard anything yet. I live in Southern California (about 2 hours from USC) and I didn’t get my acceptance letter until today. It was postmarked yesterday (Jan. 26). Basically, there is still hope for those that live in Southern California! I would also like to point out that my USConnect has NOT changed yet. I don’t have any Explore USC links. I also DO NOT have outstanding test scores. My ACT was a 31 and my SAT was a 2040. This definitely proves that the letters are coming out in waves and that the review is holistic!

Fight on!

Thank you Ali for letting us know! What a relief…I live in the south, not CA, but my USConnect has no change yet either. I will keep checking for a letter until I pass out on the walk to the mailbox.

Thanks Ali! Yeah, I was getting really worried this afternoon… maybe there’s still hope. I haven’t heard of anyone from western WA getting any news yet.

Seahawks506, just to let you know, I live in North Seattle and received my packet today (postmarked the 25th). I hope you also receive some good news soon!

S2 received admission packet and finalist standing for Trustee’s scholy in today’s mail. We’re in Norcal.

there is a student in Charlotte NC that received an acceptance packet and presidential scholarship interview invitation today. just FYI.

Ali, what scholarship did you qualify for?

@Ali2053 Thanks for the hope! I don’t have an explore USC tab, and I was getting really worried about it! Now I know that there is still a chance! I’m in RI, so I didn’t expect to have a letter by now anyways.

Hey everyone, I am so confused. I got my acceptance packet today, but there was no mention of a merit based scholarship. I applied before Dec. 1, and I’m not sure what to think. Are they going to send me another letter telling me what scholarship I’m up for, or am I out of the running? Please clarify!!!

based on discussions elsewhere, it would appear that those who received admission package without trustee (full-tuition)/presidential (1/2-tuition) will likely receive dean’s (1/4-tuition) in an upcoming mail. no interveiw is needed for Dean’s.

Please wanted to ask your opinion, how normal is it for usc financial aid to offer no assitance to middle class income family? Is one thing to look at GROSS pay ( before Social security, federal/state tax, etc ) and another to look at the NET pay stub. Have sent in appeal for FAMILY COMMITMENT amount, but do not realistically expect a change in financial aid offer. Daughter did receive 20,000 scholarship from private university on east coast, and included a copy of that with financial aid appeal. Was not expecting a full GRANT, but was expecting something in the 10k-15k-20k range at least? Thanks …

We are middle income and have been offered loans. Our daughter is a Presidential Scholar. The calculator determined 18.5 in need-based aid. The scholarship replaced the need-based aid so now what we have is loans. And lots of them.
