I got 2 nominations, but both were alternates. Will the academy send me updates if the people ahead of me start declining their appoinment offers? Or will I hear nothing until the appointment is either taken or offered to me?

You'll likely hear nothing until you receive notification that you got in or didn't.

I don't know about the academy, but your BGO will probably be able to tell you everything you want to know.

I'll hear when I hear. I've only heard from my last choice schools, so it doesn't really matter when I hear from Navy, bacause I'll just have to wait until April to know for sure where I'm going. But then again, I'd like to know whether or not I should bother going to the Candidate View Weekend in March. If I knew for sure that I didn't get an appointment, it would be nice to not visit a school I won't be going to.

If you really want to go, then you'll go to that function anyway. Don't give up until they tell you "No", and since they haven't, you have to behave as if they'll say "Yes".

BTW, VERY motivational post number! ;)

Unfortunately, I doubt your BGO will have the answers. It may surprise you, but we are often among the last to know when a candidate receives an appointment -- for me, it has always been after the candidate him/herself has been told. We also don't have any involvement in the nominations process, other than knowing what noms a candidate has received.

I agree with those who say to stay positive and wait until you hear. It could be tomorrow, April 15th, or even later.

When I had an interview with my congressman's assistant, he said it could be until a few days before June 30, but after that, nobody can be added to the class of 2010. So I'll stay positive, because as long as I haven't been told that the appointment has been taken, I still have a good chance.

USNA1985: Am I misguided in assuming that you can go online and look up the coded status (CO, FQ, etc) on any of your candidates at any time?

I will share informationfrom the class of '08.

One current plebe was appointed 3 days before I-day. Approximately 6-9 plebes were appointed at least one week into plebe summer.

My son's BGO contacted me to help the first plebe get everything together (immunization records, dental, etc) to report on time; she had been waitlisted. She got a call asking if she was still interested, followed by a call and overnight mail offering the appointment.

Strange but true.
CM

BGO's can look at the status codes, but it seems like the Academy notifies the MOC first so they can notify the candidate before it shows up in the system.

Additionally, BGO's are given guidance that we're NOT supposed to give information regarding offers to the candidate - USNA prefers that the congresspeople have that opportunity first.

Mike

Ahh....so as suspected, it comes down to what kind of rapport one has with his/her BGO among other factors. Makes sense.

Well, that - and how much the BGO's play by the rules that USNA has decreed.
