Are you allowed to send in additional rec? I mean, if a teacher has something personal to say about you but she didn't put it in her original rec, can she add?

When are you supposed to send updates(including awards, etc.)?

You're allowed to send completely additional recs, but I don't know about revisions. It seems kind of superfluous.

I would send an update mid-February, latest. They're reviewing at that time, and you don't want your app to be covered before the letter gets there.

I would send in your updated material by March 1. That's the date that alumni interviews are due, so I assume that's the lastest the admissions officers evaluate new information.

If the teacher didn't put it in the original rec, it probably wasn't the most important thing she had to say about you. I'd skip the supplemental teacher rec.

admissionsaddict, can you read my update letter and see if it's appropriate? there are things that i probably should let a teacher/counselor at my former school write(what happened my junior year). or should I mention them myself?

hideANDseek--Sure, PM me the update letter. Just remember, the only thing I claim any real knowledge about is the interview process. But I'd be happy to let you know if the update letter has the right flavor, in my opinion.

what about additional recommendations? I was considering sending one from my math teacher to help offset my 680 SAT math score. I'm not a great math standardized test taker but I've consistently been one of the top math students in my class. for EA I sent in an extra recommendation from a music person and had a friend who's an alumni send in a letter. I want to send it in, but I don't want to overfill my file. what do you think?

rhapsodynshadow--I wouldn't send it the additional rec. Your math grades should speak for themselves. The letter from the teacher would only emphasize your math SAT and would look like you're making excuses. You've already got two more recs than Yale asks for, so I'd just sit tight.
