This. You may want to look into what will happen in subsequent years to make sure that your schools are going to be affordable beyond freshman year.
Hi, all. Didn’t expect an old thread to get brought back, but I guess I can explain what the resolution was.
I got on the phone with NEU (where I’m now for sure attending) and explained all of this to them directly. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I will say that it has been figured out and I feel very secure in what the solution was. My costs will go up slightly for my second, third, fourth (possibly fifth with co-ops) years, but at an affordable and what I felt was a fair amount. I have to give kudos to the Northeastern Fin Aid office on this one, they were willing to really work with me.
@goingnutsmom Thank you for your concern! Posts like yours are why I keep coming back to CC - everyone looks out for each other and I always get great advice. I would like to clear up, though - my mom actually passed away when I was younger, and then later on my dad remarried and the family tree grew again. So although home care/nursing home expenses may not be directly in my future, I am aware of that possibility and I’m not making any definite plans beyond undergrad for now. I have some experience in dealing with unexpected health issues, so I know the importance of not taking anything for granted. Again, thank you!
So glad that you called them and they were helpful! Another plus for people Northeastern!
You aren’t require to list $30,000 times four in savings ANYWHERE on the FAFSA or Profile forms? Are you sure?
My opinion…if you can afford to pay $30,000 a year in costs yourself…then go where the costs are that amount or less. That is already the case at NEU.
You say you can pay up to $30,000 a year…and NEU is well below that threshold. I’m flummoxed as to why you think they should award you more money. The $17,000 net cost to attend NEU is WELL below your $30,000 or even $20,000 among you say you can contribute.
Glad this was resolved…and glad you realized NEU was affordable.
