I have the new tax information, but is it required that I update it? Nothing ahs cahnged significatnly (maybe 1 to 2 thousand a year income difference).

It is so much of a hassle and I will have to change a lot, on top of that I am still working on my FAFSA. My parent's arent really helping so this is kinda stressful on my part.

Does CollegeBoard required that we update info, or is it just a suggestion? anyways the FAFSA will have the new info.

Yes, it is required that you update the information. No, it's not required by College Board, it's required by the schools you're applying to. You send the corrections to the individual schools.

There is no "most colleges" deadline. Check your schools' websites.

Download a copy of your current CSS profile from the college board website, make changes by hand, make copies and mail to the individual schools' office of financial aid.

You can submit your first Profile online electronically. Most schools advise that you do so at least one week before their deadline. To correct the Profile, you do as noted above...print out, and handwrite the corrections. call the school to see where they would like it sent. We were given specific names to send the corrected Profile to. And yes...make a copy for your own records.

What has been others' experience about whether schools actually want the updated Profile? When I completed and submitted Profile online originally, in looking up the various lettered school codes for different schools' requests, they all requested W-2s from D and I, 2006 taxes when filed, that sort of thing, and we've sent those in. None so far have asked for an updated Profile or FAFSA.

I called around to all of my D's Profile schools this afternoon as a check on her FA file status. In verifying whether all of the materials were in order, I asked this question about Profile update requirements. One school required an update, but only if you underestimated your 2006 income significantly. Significance was defined as "$10K or more" but I'm sure that this was an off the cuff number given by person answering phones today.
