Over the past several months, I have been contacted by various division 2 and division 3 schools regarding recruitment to play on their varsity tennis teams. The only issue is that in my Common Application I never mentioned being recruited by any schools for tennis. I think I made it clear in my Common Application that I am a very skilled tennis player by mentioning my United States Tennis Association’s success in achieving a top 15 ranking in my state. My only question is whether I should inform the colleges that I have applied to of my college recruitment for tennis. I know that it is very late to be submitting new information in the college admissions process, but would this information be worth sharing? For reference, I applied to Northwestern ED and was deferred, but I have been accepted to WashU RD, UW - Madison EA, Marquette Rolling and Case Western Reserve EA.
Thank You!
If you’re asking whether the admissions committee at school A is going to be impressed that you were recruited by school B, C, or D the answer is no.
If you’re applying to schools where the coach is recruiting you then yes, they’ll care. But if that were the case the coach would be handling that part and you wouldn’t need to ask here.
You have great options already so I wouldn’t stress about this.
@politeperson I was only wondering if the schools that I am applying to would treat my involvement with tennis as being more impressive/substantive if I informed them that I am being recruiting for teams at the D2 and D3 level. I figured that informing them would make it clear that I am as serious about tennis as I have conveyed in my CommonApp.
The recruitment interest isn’t coming from admissions but from the coaches. The coaches have somehow been informed you exist. If you want to follow up with them, do. If you want to contact the coaches at the schools you’ve been admitted to and ask about tennis, do so.
Wisconsin, Marquette, and Northwestern are D1 schools. Whole different level than D2/D3.
@Maltamilkbone I don’t think it’s going to matter. They can see your commitment and level of involvement on your app. They don’t really care which coaches might have contacted you unless the coach at THEIR school thinks you can help the team. And if that were the case the coach would be handling all this. Otherwise, your tennis is just another EC and I’m sure you’ve supplied them with enough information to use it in their evaluations. To raise it at this point would be more annoying then helpful, honestly. I’d just relax and wait. Your application is probably pretty good given the acceptances you already have.
@politeperson and @twoinanddone I want to thank you for response. I will follow your advice and not contact the universities that have yet to release decisions. Once again, thank you very much!
