Updating your admisssion file?

A new question for all you MT parents(at least I couldnt locate an answer to it)

Should we be sending updates to schools where MT decisions have not been made? I know just role/resume stuff is not critical but I am thinking major stuff like State/Regional Chorus, big awards or National Merit status....

Obviously the schools that have already sent their regrets dont care but those without rolling admissions might. What do you all think? And do you send it just to admissions at this stage or to the MT folks as well...

All thoughts welcome!

Yes, it is appropriate to send an update letter of significant activities and accomplishments and awards that may have occurred since you sent in your application several months ago. Normally, I would recommend sending such a letter to the admissions office. In the case of a BFA, depending on how the school is set up, you could send a copy to the department as well. But at least send it to admissions. This is just in the case of significant updates, but don't write just to write. The examples you gave are good ones. Interest in the program can be reiterated as well.

My D also sent in a recent recommendation letter that she received after doing a show with a guest director in late Jan. She sent in an update of her resume, the letter and her State chorus award to all of her schools with a note asking them to add these to her folder. If schools are waiting to see all of their auditions before making final decisions, I think that additions are appropriate.

Sarahsmom,

What on earth are you doing up at 5:55 am!!! I thought only I was up then?????
:)

Nope, kaysmom, you, me and Sarahsmom are apparently all up at that time. I actually rise each day at 5:15 a.m. -- yuck, I know.

I think that someone posted this somewhere else on the board as well... but just a reminder to update admissions (and the department directly if the process is that you will receive a letter of acceptance from both the department and the admissions office) if you have accepted an offer at another school and no longer want to be considered for the MT major at a given school. :)

Hi Kaysmom,
