anybody else have this odd experience when submitting the update: I submitted the update and the number 22 randomly appeared on the far right of where my last line of type was (luckily it was just my sign off from the letter). I checked my document and even printed the page, and 22 was no where to be found…
Do you think admissions officers will begin going through waitlist materials before may 1st?
There may be a slight chance, but I would guess they wait until the first week of May to reconvene. They are currently still working on transfer applications and results usually get released the first week in May for transfer applicants.
That is very nice to hear! I sent my update letter last week, and my tutors at school told me that it was by far the best thing I had written. I also contacted my interviewer, and he just told me to be patient. I hope to see you there next fall! Thanks for your comment. @lauraazumah
It looks they admitted about 30 less people total this year and the class # goal went up by 25. Hopefully this means there will be a decent amount of waitlist admits.
Good point. Let’s hope the overall yield drops lower than 66 percent this year too, which would open up even more room!
Anyone else who hasn’t submitted yet? I’ve been insanely busy this last month and just submitted my update tonight…hoping this isn’t frowned upon.
@brooklyn13 I think you’re okay with the later submission as long as the portal still allowed you to upload it.
It’s possible the committee might start letting waitlist applicants know their fate near the end of next week!
@northstarfx omg are you sure? How do you know?
In the CC thread from last year, there were a few students who got off the waitlist at the end of the first week in May. But I think the bulk of the decisions will not be out until the second week (May 9-13th) if they follow trends from the past several years combined. In either case, we are getting CLOSER!!
What do we write in the letter? Is it not just an update letter?
I wasn’t sure what I should do for the update letter so I made a video that’s kind of a parody but also serious lol, I’m hoping they actually watch it.

Very clever @Bmttbrandon! I think your video shows great creativity, humor, and passion! I think it will probably be a hit with Penn admissions as it is unique and that is what I think it takes at this point to stand out. Although not quite as elaborate, I, too, did something a bit different with a multi-page brochure – hoping it works out! Good luck to you!
Thank you!! I’m really hoping it can stand out or something to them. It’s a risk but at this point, I feel like it’s all a game of high risk and high reward, so I think it’s great that you did something different too! Heres to getting off the waitlist!!
Well it’s officially May! I hope we all get good news this month
Amen to that @Penn1248! The ‘wait’ is almost over [-O<
Good Luck! everyone
The availability also depends on the number of students doing gap year.
Hoping an article comes out this week about yield & waitlist plans
Sadly, it doesn’t look good for ANY wait listed applicants this year. We just heard a radio interview with Dean Furda on Wharton Business Radio where he said Penn is, “currently at 100% enrollment after May 1st commitments, which will mean very few will be taken from the wait list.” WHAT A BUMMER!
Sorry to hear that. Quaker’ days went very well.
