UPenn Application essays help

Hello, I have a few questions concerning the essays required for both the Common Application and the UPenn Supplement to the Common Application. I am submitting both online.

-Obviously I haven't started on my essays yet so I haven't uploaded them. Anyways, when uploading the essays, will they be automatically converted into the necessary format? Or will I have to format them myself? If so, how should they be formatted? 12 point font, double space, etc? Is a title or header required? This question is for the essays both on the common app and supplement.

-Concerning the writing limit UPenn supplement to the Common App essay(s), what does "do not exceed one page" mean? Is that one page typed or handwritten? Does that mean one page double spaced or single spaced? Does this one page requirement apply for the optional essay on the supplement as well? (I know it says submit page 217, but I want to make sure if there is a writing limit of one page)

-Concerning the topic of the required essay on the UPenn supplement to the Common App, what am i supposed to write about? I am unfamiliar with the places included in the topic (Union Fire Company, etc) so I assume this is my "Why do i want to go to UPenn?" essay. If this is not the case, should I research UPenn further and write about these places and where would I include my "Why do i want to go to UPenn?" essay in the Penn Supplement?

Thank you for your time and any suggestions/answers!

It will auto-format it. Submit your essays single-spaced, sans header, etc.

One single-spaced, typed page is the limit for both essays.

Yes, the question is essentially asking, “Why Penn?”

What IRJunkie said is right. The supplemental essay question is not asking you about those specific organizations, it is asking what organizations (clubs, etc) you would join at Penn and what you would bring to them.
