Upenn, Brown or Cornell?

I've been accepted to Upenn (College of Arts and Sciences), Brown and Cornell this year (strange...with a 2100 in SAT 1 and 2170 in SAT 2). Stanford decision still pending. So....which would be the best choice? Which would be the most rewarding professionally (in the future) and intellectually!? Which university will be the most fun!? I'm an international student so I have no idea what to expect. I don't know the atmosphere of each university, so PLEASE help!

what will your major be?

Economics or Mathematics probably. MAYBE physics. Want to do a minor in cinema studies if possible. That is why I applied to College of Arts And Sciences at Upenn...want to keep options open!

Academically, they are the same at the undergrad level... you can't go wrong.
It would be splitting hairs tring to make this decision on academics.

But they are in very different locations/environments.
Penn is in a MAJOR urban city, Brown is in a medium/small city, Cornell is rural.

What about career prospects later?! Will they be affected by this decision at all!? I think I'm being overly tense...but it's scary! Will this decision influence career prospects later. Do firms, companies etc. respect one college more than the other. Will they give more preference to a Upenn graduate than a Brown graduate?!

No, there is VIRTUALLY NO difference in prestige or career prospects or opportunities at all among these three schools... they are pretty much EQUALS academically, and in prestige.

disagree with above. there certainly are differences in terms of academic pedigree and overall stats for grad school & career placement.

none will inhibit you from doing what you want or close any doors, however

So...which university would you rank as the best among these?

dcircle... at the UNDERGRAD level??? I don't think so.
They have VERY different strengths/weaknesses at the GRADUATE level...
but for UNDERGRAD, the differences in quality of education & prestige are pretty insignificant.

Okay...Stanford waitlisted me! Does anyone have any idea when they'll inform me of their eventual decision!?

I'd go to Cornell. It's gorges.

Props for knowing that particular line. :)

Why does everyone make fun of Cornell?

Uh..how exactly am I supposed to act now?!

Am I not supposed to send a deposit to the university I wish to enroll in by May 1. Stanford says it will inform me late May! How much is the deposit?! What would you people advise me to do!?

I would choose Upenn

The waitlist is not a great place to be. See
http://www.stanford.edu/home/statistics/#admission

My advice is to act as though Stanford is not an option. Decide on the college you want to attend and send in a deposit. If you do get off the waitlist, you might lose the deposit, but that's part of the price you pay.

I agree there's no significant difference between the 3 in terms of prestige or fame. If you're a person who's unfamiliar with the U.S., Penn's size and location might be a bit intimidating. Likewise, Cornell might seem large but isolated. Also, Cornell seems to have a reputation of working everbody very hard, even for an elite school (they seem to like to tell everybody it's the easiest Ivy to get into and the hardest to get out of). Brown would seem to be the best alternative, given that it's in a city, but not a huge city; it's much smaller and more intimate, so a foreigner might feel at home quicker than at the 2 much larger schools.

How much is the deposit likely to be?!

I would forget about Cornell and Stanford, and decide between the other two. Cornell is too isolated and intense. I'm not a Stanford fan, but that's just me. Brown would be good if you are creative, self-motivated, and intellectually independent. Otherwise, Penn. It has more of a pre-professional atmosphere.

All of those schools are amazing. I would recommend picking based on personal preference. For example, given the choice between those three, I'd say Brown would be my first choice. But you can't lose with those universities. All three are legitimate top 10 universities.
