thanks for any comments. I want to major in political science and minor in political economy.

fair chance

Penn: no chance.

i think it comes down to whether or not you get flagged for recruitment; if you do then you have a solid chance. If not, then you probably have an OK shot but I really don't know what the track record for people with your stats are at Penn admissions (ie I know that Cornell will occasionally accept someone with surprisingly low stats).

The number one ranked debater in the country (not sure which type) went to my HS. He had stellar ECs and scores, but was rejected from Yale. He's still going to Princeton.

Also, (another student from my HS) the number one tennis player on our state champion team, and individual state champion, was accepted to UPenn for a tennis scholarship. He is very good, and nationally ranked. I should mention he had legacy as well. It wouldn't be beyond his parents to have donated a substantial amount of money.

Just some anecdotes.

what school are you from (to above poster)?
did you by any chance go to CPS?

No, I went to a public HS in NJ.

If you get recruited for baseball, tennis, or debate, you'll have a pretty good chance...And if I were you, I'd definitely try to get recruited for debate, if Penn has a debate team that recruits. The national and state-wide awards and rankings in debate will definitely exert a good deal of pull with admissions if the debate team coach is also putting in a good word.

On the other hand, if you don't get recruited, even with your superlative record in debate, you're chances of getting into Penn based on your academics and test scores are well below average - probably in the 5% range. Generally, the kids who are accepted at Penn are in the top 5% of their classes, have combined SATs exceeding 2250, and also have ECs nearly as good as yours, and many have ECs that are better. It's a very competitive school.

By the way, although Penn (and all Ivies) recruit for sports and various other activities, they do not offer sports scholarships. If you get recruited to play baseball at Penn, and you're accepted, the reward is not money, but the opportunity to go to an Ivy League school.

you're an amazing candidate...except for that GPA. Unless you get straight As senior year, expect a defer->reject.

thanks for the imput, how about schools like;

gwu, uchi, vanderbilt, emory, usc, bc, west point, naval academy.

kthnx

penn: improve ur sat to 2250+ and u're in.
try cornell.
also take SAT IIs

Don't trash the GPA unless his class standing is equally "merely" above-average...a 3.55 and top 10% is better than a 3.7 and top 15-20%.

However, if he is a master debator--then he has a very good chance anyways.

i will likely send in act scores with the sat 2's (im taking in sept/oct respectively)
