Currently, I am a Senior hoping to get into University of Pennsylvania.
Right now, my WGPA is 3.84. My school does not give the actual GPA to colleges.
However, I think my real GPA is around a 3.4.
I have taken 3 AP classes and numerous Honors classes.
I am planning to take 3 more AP classes during my senior year.
Also, I have played in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra for 2 years and the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra for 1 year.
If this helps, I also performed in All South Jersey Orchestra and placed 5th chair during my Junior year.
I have also played in my school pit for 2 years.
In addition, I performed in both my school orchestra and pep band for all 4 years.
I also threw in JV Track and Field for 2 years as a javelin thrower.
I have also interned at JFK Hospital (3 years) and Kwak Family Medicine(1 summer).
I also founded a chapter in my high school for JSA (Junior State of America).
Also, I have went on 3 mission trips during my high school year(Dominican Republic, Mexico and South Carolina).
I have a 32 on the ACT.
I also attended NSLC at Northwestern under the medicine program and took a class under the Brown Pre-College Program.
My planned major is Psychology going with the premed track.
I have also applied early decision and sent in a violin recording.
I understand that having 3 C’s (Honors Geometry, Honors Chemistry, Honors Pre-Calculus) would diminish my chances of getting in, since this is an ivy league school. Thank you for your help!
3 C’s is really going to hurt you, and a 3.4 GPA puts UPenn practically out of reach. A 32 ACT is at 25th percentile. The outlook doesn’t look too good, but hey you never know. Also, there isn’t much you can do now, so just enjoy the fact that it’s over and just wait till decision day.
With a 3.4 that makes your chances unlikely.
I agree with the 3.4 making it very hard for you. It’s awesome your in PYO (I have tons of friends who are in it, and I’m in the rival orchestra ) but not sure that it will help a ton, nor will your summer programs because they are not too selective or prestigious. Unless your violin recording is amazing, it won’t help much either. And by amazing I mean as in the level of people who make it to NAFME All-nationals and NYO.
But, not all hope is lost! ED makes your chances higher, and make sure your essays and recs are good, as they are just as important as your academic scores. Plus I’m assuming you are applying CAS which is not as hard to get in as Wharton or Dual Degree.
Not going to happen without a major hook.
Hope for the best, but in this case you should definitely expect the worst due to that 3.4 GPA.
To put that into perspective, many recruited athletes will have a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA at a minimum.
Very slim chances.
move to chance page - but I agree the chances are not good.
I will go stronger on this than most so far – you have zero shot (not a slim chance, but actually no shot at all) unless you are a recruited athlete or have some other similar major hook (and there aren’t too many that are equivalent to recruited athlete). Don’t mean to be mean, but there are students turned away from Ohio State University who have a 3.4 GPA. Your target here is extremely unrealistic.
