Can someone please offer their opinion on my chances? it would be greatly appreciated.

First SAT score was 1830 (CR 600, M 610, W 620). I know these must go up, and I’m working on it. How high should I shoot for?

Not to be mean, but we're all over the whole college admissions thing, so you probably will get more responses from the general forum. But one thing i will tell you is keep it up with number one rank and keep taking the SAT until you go nuts. The higher the score the better, if you're gonna shoot for a score shoot for a 2400

Although you may not be a hyper-overacheiver like others on this board I believe that you have a good solid chance of acceptance. I assume your applying to the College. I was a very similar applicant and I was accepted this year. I think that you should realistically shoot for an SAT score above 2150 to be safer in that regard. Also, although you aren't an ORM, you are from New Jersey, which will not help your app. Good luck.

I was wondering if I could get into penn?
I started with a low GPA of 92 percent freshman year
I have drastically improved but my GPA has only moved to a 94.5 percent
I started an art show raising money for my schools africa serice trip.
I started a service trip to Honduras
I am in a scholars program but I do not have a very high GPA
I was wondering if the University of Pennsylvania will accept me even though my GPA is not that high

Well I am a first year student at Wharton and I just have to say that all the stuff about having perfect SATs and even super, super high SATs is bull. Penn would rather have someone over 4 years obtain a good gpa than someone who has an ok gpa and super high test scores. Penn is full aware of the fact that SATs aren't all that reliable. So, they weigh more on you GPA.

Sorry to say this but almost everyone who applies to Penn is smart and deserves to be here. Being a great student is one aspect. My high school had 35 acceptances to Penn. The 3rd person is our class with an SAT of 2400 and a 4.0 gpa was REJECTED. My point is that if you are the best person academically with nothing else then your chances of getting in are very very slim. Penn does a good job of creating a "culture" where people are smart, but also "well rounded."

Having lots of community service is great! Penn wants people who will one day change the world.

My advice to all of you is to stay away from asking questions like "what are my chances" because the people at Penn have soooo many different situations. As they always say, "it really is on a case by case basis."

I have to agree that for Penn SATs are not the ultimate deciding factor.

I was worried that my SAT scores were too low (2000 and 2040), but I was just accepted to the Class of 2011.

I think that my community service (over 150 hours) and National Forensic League awards helped me stand out more.

I suggest working towards getting a solid SAT score above a 2000, maintaining an 'A' average, and having excellent ECs (or co-curriculars as my school calls them). Make sure that you are sincere and dedicated to your ECs too and not just doing them to "beef up" your application.

Don't forget to be sincere in your essays too.
