UPenn Class of 2018 RD Applicants

Well, 2200 really is not a high score for Chinese students.

alphabetical order …

Sorry to interrupt this thread abruptly but I applied to ALL the Ivies. Already got deferred from Harvard so no hope there. But I guess I’ll see my emails first and then log on to the portals for the decisions. A week left! Ahhhh!!!

@Mangena

Is 2200 a high score? Yes. Are Chinese students expected to score higher/Do they need higher scores to be competitive? I don’t know. Does that make 2200 less impressive? I wouldn’t say so.

It is a bit disturbing to see so many people saying they applied to several or all ivies. Each Ivy is quite different in many ways and its not possible that all are a good fit for any one person. Big/small, liberal arts vs pre professional, city vs rural, core curriculum vs flexible. These are just some broad differences without even getting into the course offerings. So if you applied for the so called prestige of the Ivy name and not based on your personal fit or goals, it might not be a recipe for success, I fear!

I understand what you are saying but my idea of a perfect school is pretty flexible. I don’t have a hard set one mold of a “perfect” school. I applied to several Ivies and I have good reasons for all of them, not being prestige/ranking. Dartmouth and Cornell’s isolation is pretty attractive to me but at the same time, Penn’s semi-urban setting has its attractiveness as well. I just think that I can fit well in different “molds” of schools. I understand your concern because I do know of several people who applied to multiple ivies just for the “name” and the “prestige” without really doing their homework/research.

I agree with @matrixsurgeon. there’s a reason why the Ivies are so great, aside from prestige. I did not apply to every single Ivy, but for the ones I did I found something unique and interesting about the school, be it their motto or academic structures or location.

I know applying to so many schools without researching about what they have to offer is detrimental. But mostly all of them have a great economics program. Besides , I applied to a whole range of schools-Rice, Duke, Berkeley etc. I guess common app really makes it convenient to apply to so many places!

Just to clarify, while Penn and Cornell obviously have pre-professional programs that are unique among the Ivies (Wharton, Nursing, Hotel Management, etc.), all eight of the Ivies have exceptionally strong liberal arts programs, with similar percentages of liberal arts undergrads headed to professional schools and/or careers.

I thought getting deferred gave you an equal, if not better, chance as first round, since H doesn’t practice ED?

I mean, percent-wise, the acceptance rate is lower, but your application info is updated and improved from the early round.

@tomwantssnow, That’s what LastPass is for. :P

I’m feeling pretty down now. I was rejected to Northwestern, so i’m afraid I won’t get into any of the Ivies i applied to.
Upenn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown. 2000 SAT 4.4 GPA Just for perspective my SAT is in the top 1% for my school. It was my first rejection, but i should get ready for more :/

Admissions are different from school to school, so still have hope for the ivies! These schools are just so tough to get into.

@Aryvane
I’m an international and the acceptance rate is MUCH lower for us. I didn’t get an interview even though I know from CC that other Indians did.
I did send a couple of updates. I know there is a slight glimmer of hope but now I won’t be expecting so much from Harvard as I was in December. The fact that about 3000 of us got deferred doesn’t help!
But thanks for thinking positively! We all need that right now!

Thanks :slight_smile: also i had interviews for these schools, so that may help a bit. I really just want one!

Is it bad to not send updates to all your schools? I didn’t send any besides just letting my interviewers know about updates…

And I didn’t even interview at all of my schools :P

@RandomLunchBox we are also feeling down too. D1 was wait listed to Northwestern. It’s hard to stay hopeful even though I try to tell myself that each college will have it’s own qualifying criteria

@SeniorMom14, @RandomLunchBox
C’om people, cheer up!!! My son was wait listed to WUSTL but have other ones…
Keep your hopes up

Got rejected by WUSTL and UCLA, the schools are crazy, the acceptance rates are very very low, 5% for WUSTL and 6% for UCLA. Don’t really have much hope for ivies
