Sorry I don’t quite understand what you mean, do you mind explaining?
You previously stated how when u called the office for the fourth time they said they’d use the waitlist this week. Now, you said that the person you called today said it’d be comjng next month. So at this point why are they giving contradictory statements?
^ I was a little confused too with the contradiction!
I went back and read what I wrote for the fourth time and I believe what I wrote was this month but not this week. To be honest I think this fits in with what I was talking about yesterday that they updated from releasing in May and June to through June and July. I’m pretty sure I never wrote done about being released in a certain week, I was never told that information. However what the admissions office is saying has been changing but I do believe that it’s changing as the dust settles down. I’ll try calling tomorrow and if the response is similar to today’s we can assume it’s accurate, if not then it’s probably just generic responses they come up with since they are told not to give out too much information to us.
Again, I don’t mean to be misleading or anything and instead I just post what I heard directly after I end the call and what I find on reliable sources (if it’s not reliable I’ll make note of it in my post) so please let me know if the information I’m giving sounds incorrect (I don’t want to make it anymore stressful for anyone).
Alright makes sense. Thx for the clarification, best of luck mate
Guys, how do you get the emails to your AO so you can send a LOCI? I have been trying to get that but with no luck
You don’t send in email.
They want the LOCI uploaded through the portal as a waitlist update. You’ll see the option under the Application Tab in your portal.
6th call to Admissions after Commitment Day:
I asked if any activity will occur this month and the guy said “no, waitlist decisions will be released in June and July” but before I had an chance to continue he said “oh sorry I meant to say throughout May and June and possibly July”. And as always he can’t give any information on how the class is filling up.
I really can’t tell if his error was just an accident or if it means something else.
I’m not sure if this counts as good news but it seems like Cornell has started to activate its waitlist which could mean that Penn might start soon.
I read that this morning, too, about Cornell. And people are starting to post.
Thanks for calling again. I think this is good news as they said they will start releasing in May. At least that’s what I understand.
So the waitlist submission is still open in my portal, would it be worth it to send LORs now? I only sent a LOCI before. I have 2 teachers I think could write a good LOR.
Do you guys think I should let them know I got chosen to speak at graduation at my school? It was an audition process.
Actually, is there a better way to submit a LOR through the portal? In common app I sent LORs without being able to see them. I don’t know how important it is for Penn to know I didn’t see the new LOR now that I’m on the waitlist
I mentioned this before in the thread to somebody, I had called the AO and was informed that updates right now might irk the committee, because apparently our applications are under review. Keeping that in mind, you might want to think about how significant this selection is. Congratulations on being selected, but personally this isn’t something I would see as significant enough to send as an update. For all those sending out updates, just for everyone’s information, when I had very initially called the AO as well (Back in April), they mentioned that the updates should show a different side of the applicant, and be something hefty enough to be added to the application, so keep this in mind!
It depends on if you know what’s going into the LoR fully, at this point, I doubt you would want the committee to read something which doesn’t paint you as an amazing, excellent student and a great fit for the University. Just be cautious that there isn’t a chance that one of the teachers writes something in the LoRs that might paint you in a negative way to Admissions (This could be the smallest of things). To answer your second question, traditionally Letters of Recommendations are supposed to be unseen by the applicant, but I don’t really know in this case since the portal seems to be the only option, so I guess they could understand if you upload it there
LORs can be submitted BY THE AUTHOR via email to documents@admissions.upenn.edu
That’s the email that school “officials” are supposed to use to submit official documents. I’d consider a teacher LOR an official document from the school.
Penn will take the LOR more seriously if you never see it.
Okay I have a question. I’m international (Northern Europe), and I need full financial aid. A guy from my school got accepted to UPenn SEAS with a full ride, but he chose Harvard and declined his spot at UPenn. I know the fact that I need full financial aid significantly affects my application, and that my chances of getting in is pretty slim, but do you think my chances will increase if they offered full ride to someone from MY school, especially when he’s not going to attend? The only thing is he applied to SEAS but I applied to CAS.
Just guessing here, but I think their first priority will be to fill the SEAS spot with another SEAS applicant. Your friend has left a gap that Penn thought was important in “shaping” their class and is the reason they offered him admission. Once they identify SEAS waitlist candidates that fill the characteristics they were hoping your friend would fill, then they will worry about the financial aid issues.
If they find the perfect SEAS replacement from the waitlist, and that person needs financial aid, they will give financial aid. Rounding out their class with their diversity targets is more important to them than the financial aid.
But I don’t think they will replace an SEAS opening with a CAS waitlister.
Also… if somebody declines a CAS spot and they think YOU are the perfect person to fill the opening, they won’t care as much about the financial aid as filling the spot with the characteristics they want to cover.
I just got a call from Pennsylvania, my heart was up at my throat, tears started rushing out, hands were trembling and I picked up the call. The guy said “Hello, this is car dealer warranty services…”… life is difficult
