Hi everyone,
I am applying to the CGS at Upenn for the Fall 2007 school year. For the students and alumni who attended the school, how tough was it to get into the program? Also, how challenging was the classwork?

What is the overall acceptance rate into UPenn’s CGS?

Penn doesn't publish details of CGS admissions (as far as I know). I was 49 when I enrolled and my previous academic history was not an issue (2.48 at Ohio State back in the 70's) So I wouldn't worry about getting accepted.

The classes are exactly the same as the day school - once you get by the basics that are offered in the evening you'll be registering for the same day classes as everyone else. (And filling out the miserable "Tuition Reduction Forms" and waiting for them to be applied and then calling to get the late fee removed from you bill....Arrgghhh)

A few PW's here will try to tell you that the evening classes are "easier". However, you should keep in mind that they meet the same prerequisites as the corresponding day classes, and when taught by the same professors, use exactly the same books and syllabi.

Also, keep in mind that CGS is mainly for working adults who typically bring a great deal of experience to the table. So courses in things like writing, literature, and history will sometimes have a significantly more sohpisticated tone than their daytime counterparts.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks for the information WilliamC. Are there anyone else who is also atending the College of General Studies Program at Upenn? Don't be shy.
