UPenn Curves

Hey,

Could someone please explain how UPenn’s Curve system (at wharton?) works? Does it guarantee that every year a certain percent will pass, score A’s, fail, etc?

how exactly do THEY grade?

i'm gonna work on getting in first

Different depending on the professor. Although most Wharton courses are curved, there is no standardized curve system.

^^^ Finally an accurate answer about the curve!

Your core classes will be curved because everyone has to take them - so the professors need a way to easily evaluate and compare students. Hello bell curve.

However, I did find that some professors in the core did not curve if everyone did well on the exam. I also found that a lot of times, the curve helped. As in, had I got the grade I actually earned, I would have bombed.

Lastly, if you concentrate in a less common subject (ie not finance) you will be in smaller courses - and for the most part faculty consider it unfair to curve in a small class.

I don't remember what the actual distributions were in each class because they were all different. But I do remember that they curve to a B-. Sometimes that hurts you, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't really make a difference.

Big take away - worry less about what everyone else is doing and focus on yourself. If you get caught up in how everyone else is performing, you will only stress yourself out or not try hard enough.

Oh thanks dudes, those were some good answers. I feel good about the curve now (it used to be the only turn off for Penn, but now, Penn is perfect).
