UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

Does anyone know what date exactly we are supposed to find out about ED decisions. I know that it was December 11th last year, but the only date I can find on the Penn website this year is “mid-december”

@99gray They have not announced it yet. They may have not decided yet.

@pmish123 no your chances for CAS will not at all be negatively affected because of your application to LSM.

I want to apply to CAS
I had a bunch of debate whether or not to do ED or RD; my ACT/SAT scores weren’t so great (average: I got a 1200 on the SAT but I retook it & I’m retaking my ACT this Saturday) and I would probably just send in my new scores, but I’m scared to do so if I didn’t get a great score. My grades are pretty solid A’s and B’s; however, I got one C+ in Pre-calc because I’m not strong in math. I want to be a poli-sci or comm major anyways. Also, math was hard for a good chunk of the year because I was concussed and so it affected my grades a bit. Now, senior year, I take hard classes, I think I wrote a pretty solid essay, good letters of rec. Also I’m big on my community and extracurriculars. National Honor Society, various clubs and charity organizations, Girl Scouts, etc;
My question is, do I have a chance of even getting into Penn? If so, should I do ED and take my chances with my scores, or should I wait to apply RD and be a bit more confident in getting my scores up? What else should I do, this is my dream school so I appreciate any advice that I could get. Thank you!

@lidiaxo If Penn is your dream school, you should do ED. It can only increase your chance especially if you have any hooks. Good Luck!

Thank you! Additionally, will the second preference CAS also be binding under ED, as is LSM?

@pmish123 You can choose whether you want to do Ed with your second choice.

Has anyone been contacted for an interview yet?

Not contacted yet for an interview. I’m in the Northeast

Ok, just wondering. Not quite sure how long the wait usually is. I’m in the Southwest.

Do you indicate you would like to have an alumni interview after you’ve submitted your application?

I don’t think there was an option for it on the Common App, but you do receive an email from Penn about the basics of the process after you submit your app.

I have a question. If I took the ACT this month and am going to take the SAT next month, should i indicate on commonapp that I have future sittings for this test (even though I took the ACT, but the scores arent out)?

What’s the chance of a 2280 getting into ED Wharton with a 3.85 UW GPA, but varsity athlete (soccer) and decent ECs (only 2 are business related)? I go to the Academy of Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences in NJ so the coursework is already tougher. Or should I just ED to NYU Stern?

Hi. I’m from South Africa with high grades and good test scores. Top 3% of matriculating year of high school. I also have represented South Africa for 4 years at the World Fly Fishing Championships. Do you believe this is a hook?

@PatelCEO You can do ED to Penn and ED II to Stern. You have a shot. You do not need to have business-related EC to get into Wharton.

hi there!! thanks for sharing! im also a chinese student and i heard that applying for financial aid will lower ur acceptance rate if u are international, im in grade 11 now in Toronto and i ll ed u penn next year

@PatelCEO hii there, will you ed nyu stern??

Just checking in to see if anyone has received an email from their interviewer yet. If so, what region are you in?

Do not worry about the interviews. A lot of applicants got interviewed close to the day of decision last year. This really depends on the local alumni scheduling situation. Sometimes, alumni outside of the region will conduct phone /skype interviews.
