UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@Klayyy not at all! they care more about leadership than being strictly business oriented. as long as your math grades and scores are good you should be good

If I have mediocre subject test scores, should I still send them? I know Penn says students who don’t take/report them aren’t at a disadvantage, but I don’t know what to do.

When will Penn decide on a date to release the Early Decision Results?

Hey guys, penn said it recommends sending all SAT scores so I sent all, I have one SAT I 2150 taken when grade 10 and 2300 taken at grade 11. Will the 2150 hurts my application?

guys i’m so close to submitting my app but like i mentioned the fact that i’m gay on there and i don’t want my parents to know. so like, when you submit your app, do your parents get emailed a copy of it? ik it sounds paranoid but like, i really don’t want my mom and dad finding out.

No your parents have no access to your app unless you have shared your common app password with them. They don’t even get an email that it was submitted unless you give their email address to get a receipt for the app fee.

oh thank you so much for letting me know.

also, how do I access the Penn Applicant Portal? I need to submit two pieces for a music portfolio, and it’s not letting me sign up for the portal, and my Common App email and password isn’t working for logging in.

Penn will send an email to confirm your submission along with your common app email and Temporary Pin to log in the portal

Hi guys, I am in Australia and my school does not have AP, IB,GPA and even class ranking is hidden and I think my counselor has not put in anything either besides a recommendation. I haven’t finished the end year exams and the final scores and reports will only be released in December possibly after ED result. I addressed these issues in my additional info, would all this negatively affect my application? But truly there is nothing I can do abt it.

@FormaldehyJ Hey I’m from Australia too! Don’t worry about AP/IB/GPA and class rank, my school doesn’t have any of them and the admissions officers review your application in the context of your high school’s curriculum (whether that’s HSC/VCE etc.). Have you submitted your common application and Penn supplement? I was told that as long as your parts are in, they will allow a few days over the deadline for the teacher recs etc. to get in, but if you can’t get everything in on time, maybe consider applying regular decision? Many Aussies apply Regular Decision after the ATAR and everything comes out anyways.

@blu5959 :> Thanks! I have already submitted my App and all the stuff to Penn, because I was thinking ED might increase the chance of being admitted. But when I sign into Penn portal, I still can’t see my counselor’s recommendation which has definitely been submitted and shown to be downloaded already. BTW, great to see you from Australia as well! My school’s curriculum is VCE so you know where I am from

@FormaldehyJ yeah that’s what I was thinking as well when I applied ED! How about your two teacher’s recommendations- are they in yet? I’m doing the Queensland system right now and it’s so lacking in terms of content… hope they won’t know about this lol

@blu5959 Yep Yep two teacher recs are in already, seems your school is also a public school. Are there a lot of kids in your school applying for American unis? In my school, I reckon me and my sis are only two applying and my counselor said she couldn’t find our school on Common App lol…

I submitted my common app and got my login. It says none of my recommendations and school reports are in. I also submitted my SAT last Thursday and it says it is awaiting. Don’t everything have to be in by tomorrow?

@ccwwbb Same! I submitted everything on 29th and I just checked my Portal, Counselor Recommendation and ED agreement were still not there. But they are already shown to be downloaded on Common App.

@Chc260810 Penn only looks at your highest score, and considering that your 2150 was in 10th grade, I doubt they’ll even consider it. Good luck!

If your teachers don’t submit their recommendations in on time, does UPenn consider that late or something? One of my teachers havent submitted a rec yet!!

Would it be annoying the admissions people if I were to email them to inform them that an alumni has yet contact me in regards to an interview?

I wouldn’t do that. Last year, it was common for some people to have their interview assignments very close to the final decisions.

I submitted my app at 12:20 am today but still haven’t gotten my login info or any email from penn… When should I expect to receive one?
