UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@financemajor37 welcome to CC! And good luck on ED! I know Penn has great FA thankfully, (and I am not saying woe-is-me) but my parents made me apply for FA just in case, my parents income is definitely above a level where they would give much aid, but considering all my parents have for retirement is their assets, maybe that will affect things

@sajeunesse Thank you! You too! And that makes sense, but it’s still good you applied for FA! Hopefully they will give you something. Honestly I’m at the point where I would do anything for an acceptance :stuck_out_tongue:

Penn is one of the few schools out there that is truly need blind so it definitely will NOT hurt you if you applied for aid and they will meet full demonstrated need so hopefully whoever needs it that gets in will get all that they need to be able to attend!

Is a 3.85 GPA low with the highest rigor possible?
In my instance:

Soph: AP Calc BC, AP Statistics, AP Psychology
Jr: AP Physics C, AP Chem, AP Lang, APUSH
Sr: AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Bio, AP CS A, AP Econ

I did have a strong upward trend; thoughts?

Hahha so true @financemajor37 I would also do anything even if it meant no FA!

@BigJah is your GPA weighted or unweighted? it also depends on your SATs, ECs, and etc. Of course one never knows but yes I would say it is a little low but upward trend is very important, I would think you could be on the cusp, quite possibly. You are lucky to have those AP opportunities available to you since soph year, I had one AP available to me soph year.

I applied to CAS Math with an 800 Math II, 800 Math I, and 770 Chem & 35 ACT, so do you think 3.85 GPA is low given my rigor? I feel like unnecessary emphasis is put on GPA.

@BigJah with your subject tests and ACT, I think you have a pretty good chance, I don’t think your GPA will affect things too much

Hi guys I’m applying from Pakistan!
I gave my SAT I for the first and only time this October (I didn’t want to sit through another one again) and got a 1400 which isn’t great my both cambridge advanced and ordinary level grades are good. Will they like make up for the modest score to some extent at least?
One other question. I applied in SEAS because there wasn’t an “undecided” option available. I haven’t given any SAT subject tests though. Never sat for any. Will that count against me? It says on Penn’s website that they’re not required, just recommended. Really worried about this.
All the best to all of you though!

Guys my ACT score’s just 33 :frowning: , GPA 3.93, Math Level-II :710
But, I have some great ECs. I am strongly inclined towards YOGA and I have even written a book ‘Meet Yourself: De-addiction from gadgets through yoga’ which was published by Partridge Publishing House, India. Many more things like articles and columns in local newspapers and websites. I have my own website, youtube channels and Facebook page. Can my ECs cover up bad scores? What are my chances according to you guys?

Alsmost forgot, I have decent EC’s too.
Founded the school blog, play on the basketball team and have been part of the school parliamentary debating team for like three years. I also head the student government body in school.

Is anyone applying from Mississippi?

@sajeunesse The GPA is unweighted 3.85; weighted is 4.4

You guys really are too worried over nothing. a 3.93 GPA with a 33 ACT and great EC’s?? Chill man, you have a good shot. 3.85 GPA isnt that bad either with some great standardized test scores. cmon guys, too worried over nothing. applications are in already no need to add this stress. let’s just enjoy the ride and wait for the verdict

also, do any of you guys know of anyone applying from the middle east?

@fgomez98 that’s soooo true for me too!!!

has anyone had their first quarter grades requested?

No, have you? @Dartmouth_21
