UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@lauraazumah I have another question: how do you apply for Benjamin Franklin scholarship? Does one apply when applying for penn during ED or when one becomes a freshman?

@lauraazumah thanks for the insight! I plan to start working on my essays a lot during the summer. Hopefully they’ll be good.

So has a Facebook group been made already?

Heres the link

@Chc260810 No I applied RD, I wasn’t ready by the ED deadline. The interview was kinda scary but my interviewer was super chill and friendly.
Well its not a scholarship but I didn’t apply for it. They invited me to join. If you’re not invited to join when the decisions are out, you can always apply sophomore year but its kinda competitive I think.

what happened to the link?

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I deleted it as I explained above.

Just search for " upenn class of 2021 applicants" on facebook

Hey guys! I was an ED applicant that got deferred to RD, but somehow managed to get in. I just want to offer some advice if you get deferred- don’t give up hope!! I sent Penn a letter of continued interest, gave them an update on new achievements and again stressed my passion for the school, and even wrote them a quick email to tell them of two new achievements in late March. I believe continued interest is super important (no matter what people say otherwise), and if Penn is truly your dream, getting deferred isn’t the end of the journey.

That being said, I hope you all get in the first time and I’ll see you in the Fall of '17  Good luck everyone!!

(Feel free to ask me any questions you have about applying to Penn ED. I remember being in your shoes literally just a couple months ago, so I feel you! :stuck_out_tongue: )

@shadyconcepts thanks for your response! So how do you show specific interest in penn? And show that you are a good fit?

@Chc260810 You should find something about Penn that no other university has and focus on that and why you think you would be a good fit. For me, the Kelly Writers House was something I loved that no other school had, so in my first letter of continued interest I emphasized this especially. Try honing in on one of your interests and discuss why Penn is the best school for it!

@shadyconcepts how do you get recruited by Kelly Writers house? I’m applying to CAS as an english major but I don’t really have any published writing or poems or anything like that.

@ZBlue17 They don’t have to be published! Write an email to Jamie-Lee Josselyn saying you’re interested in the KWH and that you’re applying to Penn next year. She should be able to help you out. She’ll probably request a portfolio of work, but they don’t all have to be published, don’t worry!

ahh gotta leave this group! deciding on ED-ing to brown instead but best of luck to you guys!

Wow, I finally get to be part of one of the results threads here on CC.

I’m up at 3:30 in the morning reading through UPenn threads (:expressionless: Hahah, I’m so excited to join this journey. We are the next group of applicants, guys!

Super excited to join! I’ll be applying to Wharton!

@CheckMyBrain11 Same!

Heya guys! My name is Shaunak, and like @shadyconcepts and @lauraazumah , I’m a part of Penn’s (Wharton) Class of 2020. During my whole application process, I managed to do TONS of research about the whole process and Penn too, so I have a buttload of information process about this. I will also soon be launching my own consultancy service, and am running a research on the application process by going through applications of several friends, so I can also share some conclusions from those as well.

Also, I was an international applicant so I can help you guys too. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions!!

PS: I was M&T ED Defer —> Wharton RD Accept

Hi @ShaunakK98 ! I’m also an international student planning to apply Penn ED this year. Now I’m unsure of whether I should apply to SEAS or CAS. I love both econs and engineering, and prefer the NETS program or systems science and engineering major. However, I don’t have much engineering related activities in high school, though my grades in math and science are quite good and Im a female applying for engineering. On the contrary, I have econs related activities. Which college do you think I should apply to?

Hello, my daughter is currently a high school sophomore. She intends on taking AP Bio and APEGS next year. However, she is interested in biomedical engineering, and her plans for an AP physics class were not until senior year. Did any of you take the SAT subject test in physics who plan on applying for engineering? Did you take an AP physics class as juniors even without the subject test?
