MODERATOR’S NOTE:
College Confidential is not a debate society, and back-and-forth bickering has no place on this thread. 18 posts deleted. But more to the point the logic of the average SAT being 1450 is faulty.
So, no, the average is not 1440. Per the link above:
One cannot simply add the 2 averages together to get the average out of 1600. I will be happy to walk through the math, but one hopes that those applying to Penn can discover the error in logic for themselves. And spreading the illogic does a disservice to the other users on this site.
As an FYI, secondary sources such as Prepscholar frequently make the same mistake, as do the student newspapers, so you’re in good company.
Based upon the information given, you can’t; you would have to have the entire data dump. Failing that; you can guess within some statistical error, but in doing so, you can’t state it as a fact. In the case of Penn, unless a document is posted on a upenn.edu site, or comes from a manager-level or above working for the Office of Institutional Research & Analysis, it’s not official, IMO.
it depends on why you had low marks freshman year. Did you have a concussion? Were you sick? Were there any extenuating circumstances? Even if not, you can turn it into something good. Did you explain it in your application?
@rosaliefontaine Last year, they announced the official date on 12/5. At least that’s when the Penn Admissions’ twitter account revealed it. So we probably won’t know until December.
