There are schools that truly DON’T consider demonstrated interest and there are schools that claim they don’t consider demonstrated interest on their CDS. Among the most selective colleges, only Stanford, Harvard, Caltech, MIT, Princeton and Cornell are in the first category. The schools in the second category don’t make a discernible effort to track demonstrated interest, but they consider it nonetheless.
darn, I was going to Penn’s summer school but I didn’t wanna miss my finals so I went to the one in Stanford which starts right after finals week…And Stanford doesn’t even care?? Maybe I should’ve missed the finals then
Check this out. They said they would only consider your interest once you meet the standards. https://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/?toURL=https://www.forbes.com/sites/noodleeducation/2016/09/27/how-students-can-position-themselves-for-selective-college-programs
How many Questbridge scholars does Penn ED and/or RD admit?
I think applying ED to Penn overshadows any way of demonstrated interest. So basically, once you’ve applied ED, nothing else can show more “demonstrated interest”. You’ve maxed that checkbox. @777629
S is applying ED.
@pizzaking253 S is applying ED
@AnthonyZ i’m right there with ya bud!
Is it worth attaching a copy of a 4,000 word research paper I just finished? Or is it too late?
I’m kind of curious as to the percentage of us here on college confidential that are accepted to Penn and other top schools. I feel like the average CC user is more competitive than the average applicant.
@AnthonyZ thats really interesting to think about… i would have to say i agree, these people i feel like also have a better grasp on the reality of college admissions and the levels of competition that are out there (we don’t necessarily live in bubbles)
@pennplz 4,000 word research paper would not help you, because it’s impossible for AOs to look through that. Sending them the abstract could be a better choice. Anyway, I think the decision had already been made before they told us the notification date .
@stayfoolish729 that’s a great point, thank you!
Do you think it matters that I didn’t submit my abstract? I wrote an abstract for publication with my mentor and was going to upload it but realized that they probably only spend oh so many moments on the app and I had already informed them about the journal submission and the project in my resume and common app. I just don’t think they actually have real professors read papers TBH.
Hi I know admissions come out in 5 days and there’s nothing anyone can really do but I just kinda want to know about how hopeful I can be. So I would say my app is pretty great (I mean from my bias perspective lol) in terms in scores, ECs, business ECs in particular, essays, recs, leadership, etc EXCEPT in the most important way, my GPA. I’ve always taken the most rigorous courses but I’m not a stranger to Bs (3.7 UW, like 4.35/4.4 W or something I’m honestly not entirely sure). I feel like any one person might feel like they’d have their application like automatically thrown out lol but I have some hooks? Black female, only person applying ED from my large (majority white) (California) public school Don’t know if I’ll be able to overcome GPA tho. Any opinions?
@bweebler you can always hope!! I have uw3.6 and w4.8 so Im not a stranger to bs either but I havent lost hope quite yet haha
@777629 I have so much hope it’s scaring me hahaha thank you for the support !!! :))
Want to hook me up with some of that hope. I have literally given up on Penn now, I’m not even looking forward to notification date anymore
@daththiccboi Penn is a reach for EVERYONE. And i’m sure you have at LEAST one thing about you that stood out to the admission officers reading your app
@777629 Ya, I thought I was ok but then I realized how much Wharton was to get into than the rest of Penn becuase of how many legacy and athletes they take and I am neither of those
