My recommendation letters should be extremely strong. One is coming from my AP biology teacher who I started the medical club and who knows me very well (I got an A in her class so she likes me a lot too).

I know it is a long shot for some of them but we will see...

Thanks for your input.

no offense but upenn is hugeee reach
ur ecs are good but not great and ur gpa and sat and sat IIs are wayyy below par, and rank of 38 is gonna hurt you.
try for penn state...are you in state?

no im from jersey. I know it is a reach. Umd is probably my next choice. Also, not sure what it is good for, but a family friend who's on the Upenn board of trustees said he would be happy to write a nice letter.

is a 3.84 UW GPA really "wwaaayyyy" below par? because i have that, too lol, but with 8 APs.

oh i see...connections? well it may help
i think u should try for georgetown and washu...with that great teacher rec and good essays u have a decent chance...
njs a bad place tho...so much competition (im from there too)

I was thinking the same thing and i didn't know that 38/618 which is around top 6% is bad. Only about 40% of all admitted students to Upenn are in top 5% i think.

Yeh i like them too. But i will be crossing my fingers from now until Dec. 15th you can be sure of that :)

Any other opinions?

poor SATs + poor grades + ok ECs = rejection
im sorry
you need to improve

You have nothing special. Maybe you can convince the wrestling or lax coach to fight for you to be a walk on, but really you dont have the best chances. Being from NJ doesnt help either. I would give your chances at Penn at 5%. You are probably in at Penn State, UMD, and Delaware. I would ED WUSTL for the best chance at getting into a name brand university. Other than that you are going to end up at an eastcoast state school. Sorry to say that, but it is most likely.

Note: you cannot EA Gtown and ED anywhere. Gtown will throw out your app, and the ED school may do thee same. Sucks dont it.

you cant apply to Georgetown EA and Penn ED. I wanted to do the same thing but if you check Gtown's EA policy you'll see that you can only apply to other early admission programs if they are non-binding. Basically you cant do Gtown EA and any other school ED

I don't see why everyone is bashing his GPA. 3.86 unweighted certainly is not below par. Although I agree, your chances at ED UPenn is not incredibly high, I disagree that you have a mere 5% chance of admission. Raise your SATS, retake your SATII's and I'd say you are in the ball park. You connection may or may not help, since there are plenty of other students with "connections." Unless you really know the guy, don't expect him to give you too much of a boost. I doubt he can write you a good letter without having know you personally.

I agree with 1231. If she retakes her SATs and gets them above a 1400 old test, she's in with a good recommendation from a trustee.

"bri guy" is a she?

You will really need that trustee to get into Penn.

bump

..................

just wondering, i am planning on retaking the SAT in a week, and all my practice tests have been around the 1400 (2100) range. Should i also take the ACT to boost my chances???
