UPenn ED vs. Columbia ED vs. Harvard RD

My state school isn’t great but I have plenty of safety choices in place that could provide me merit scholarships

How about for Penn?

Yes, only Stanford seems worth my time to apply to considering the long distance. I also don’t have the affinity for California that many other students have.

Nah, I’ve visited some but I doubt I would be happy at such small colleges

As for posts asking if I would be happy at UPenn, the answer is a definite yes both academically (Ivy League, what more can I say?) and socially (many good friends attend Penn already).

In the Daily Pennsylvanian, their was an article in the winter that had a graph of the early decision acceptance rates at all of the ivies for the class of 2014. Penn accepted around 31% of the early decision applicants this year. The lowest it has been I believe is 28%, and for the class of 2013 it was around 32%. This year, they accepted about 40 more people early than usual, but there was an increase in the number of applicants from last year.

Alright. By the way, are official campus visits recorded for the admissions committee? For example, will admission officers ask, “So did this kid take an official tour of the campus?” I ask this question knowing that Penn is apprehensive about accepting applicants who will simply hurt their yield and thus their US News ranking.

Can an unofficial visit to UPenn be as valid?

Just apply ED to Penn or Columbia. Nothing is certain during RD anymore, but as an ED candidate you have a great chance.
