CR: 650
M: 800
W: 800
2250, 10 Essay

Can I get into UPenn CAS ED, or will my CR score ruin my chances? We're talking strictly SAT-wise, assuming that the rest of my application is good (it is). I have published research in the top science publications such as Nature, Science, and PubMed.

Also, how about Cornell ED?

Gah so is that a no? >_>

You'd certainly have a better chance at Cornell ED, for obvious reasons... Perhaps you should visit both and then decide which you prefer.

Also, you might want to consider taking the SAT in October.
This time last year, I was in almost the same exact boat as you... I took the SAT for the first time in May 06 and scored a 2240 (650 CR / 790 M / 800 W, almost identical to yours). I prepped hardcore for CR over the summer and took the SAT again in October... Pulled CR up 90 points to a 740.
I was deferred ED to Penn, but miraculously accepted RD. If I hadn't gotten that 740, I firmly believe that I would not be attending Penn this fall.

Good luck to you.

Thanks.

Did your M and W scores fall a bit or did it not matter because of superscoring? What did you do to practice? I'm already signed up for the October SAT, and I've been practicing every day going through the Blue book, Barron's CR Workbook, and Barron's 2400.

If you have published research in those magazines, I am pretty sure you don't have much to worry about.

relax people, I got in to Penn Engineering as a transfer with a 380 CR, 470 WR 800 M score (two settings), but English isn't my first language and I stated that on my app. Honestly and not to brag but I've never read anything like my essays, I think they were the reason why I got in

if the previous poster really did get in with 380 CR and 470 WR then props to him because ive never heard of a score that low getting into a good school let alone a top one like penn.......not saying its untrue, just saying its so rare that ur the first person ive heard of that has gotten a sub 400 on any section and got into Penn....

personally, i got into wharton this year and my scores were 710 CR, 800 M, and 670 WR........i firmly believe that as long as ur scores are in the range of the scores they typically recieve, than don't sweat it.....im one of the ppl who believe that a 2200 is no different from a 2250.......dont worry about a few points......focus on the rest of your application especially the essay and come across as a unique applicant or just show them how much you can add to the class by being you......

well it's true that I got in with a 380 CR and a 470 WR I can show it to you if you want to :), I stated on my app that I took the SAT before my freshman year, so these scores are more than a year old and that my verbal skills have improved dramatically since then, don't forget that my first language is not English (although I'm an American citizen). I guess it was stupid from me not to retake the SAT before applying as a transfer, since all of the other 6 schools that I applied to rejected me, the weird thing was that Penn Engineering is as selective as the others or even more.

Math fell a bit (790 to 770), and Writing fell significantly (800 to 660), but it didn't matter because of superscoring.
For practice, I retook all of the CR sections in the CollegeBoard blue book, and bought CollegeBoard's online course and took all of the CR sections there too.
I also learned every word on the list found here (http://img.sparknotes.com/content/testprep/pdf/sat.vocab.pdf), which helped very much... On the October SAT, I didn't get any sentence completions wrong. I used a few other lists too, but this one was definitely the most helpful.

Sounds good. Thanks for the tips.

You can get an 800 w/ 10 essay? I got all the multiple choice right and 12 essay...

Nevermind, I'll probably never guess the SAT scoring system.

First time I took it, I got 750W w/11 essay and 2 wrong on MC.

btw brosfam, what i said was meant to be a joke if you didn't get it....you obviously seem very accomplished and you probably already know that, i dont think a 650 in one section will keep you out, but know that if you want to raise your score, you can do it with practice and focus. i raised my CR by 80 points in one sitting by doing practice sections (kaplan book) every weekend starting at like end of augustish (for the october exam). you'll be fine, but dont let your first semester senior year grades or your essay writing for the apps interfere because i find that those matter even more for a student like you. someone i know had like 800, 770, 670 and tanked senior year and got deferred, then rejected by penn. he was very qualified otherwise. shows that scores are not everything
