UPenn engineers: Help with my subject test dilemma?

Hello!

Before posting this, I made this thread: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1555201-how-bad-would-taking-sat-math-1-hurt-my-chances.html#post16390976%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1555201-how-bad-would-taking-sat-math-1-hurt-my-chances.html#post16390976</a></p>

Basically, I'm applying ED to Penn this fall. I don't feel prepared enough to take the Math 2 subject test and do well. I'm considering taking the Math 1 but I don't want it to hurt my chances too much :(

What subject tests did you guys take to become accepted? Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks so much for any responses!

My take is that one shouldn’t have to sweat this much or be this anxious about one test amongst many other tests and other records that you have to submit. Unless you badly bomb either of the test, this is not going to make or break your application.

One thing you can do instead of saying you feel you can’t do well is to study and take practice test and see how you can do in a test. As I understand it, most people that do well in SAT Math 1 will do just as well or sometimes better in SAT Math 2 because the curve is supposedly more generous in SAT Math 2. Get the prep book and go over some of the materials and problems, that should give you a better idea of what to do.

Alright man, I think I’ll do that then. A practice test or two may help me iron out the details.

Any other input is greatly appreciated!

You can take ACT with writing. But if you don’t think you can do well on the Math II why do you think engineering is the career for you? Most prospective engineers have excelled throughout high school in Math.

@Mamalumper I’ve done great in math throughout high school! The thing is, my school’s Standard Level Math IB Program doesn’t offer some of the content seen on that test (or doesn’t look into it to much extent).

Hmm!

The ACT+Writing is looking good. I like how they have a Science section as well.Plus, taking any SAT II’s would be “extra”.

Not bad!

My S took the ACT and felt it was helpful because he could not take the Physics exam because he did not have the required class until Senior year so scoring well on the Science section of ACT helped I think (Although he did have a Bio SAT II he submitted as well) Good Luck.

@Mamalumper PM’d. Thanks again.
