Potential Hooks: First generation immigrant, low-income background

Since you do not yet know your June SAT, I’ll go based off of what information you have given me.

U Penn: Reach/ High Reach
Johns Hopkins: Low Reach/ Reach
Swathmore: Low Reach/ Reach

I’m going to be brutally honest for a second, but your scores and GPA are too low for these top universities. Especially for Ivys like U Penn, you should have at least a 2200 on the SAT, and preferably a 3.8 or higher unweighted GPA. You do not meet those criteria. You are correct that being low income, and a first generation immigrant do help your chances, at least slightly. You have okay extracurriculars, but they aren’t anything out of the ordinary. A 2200 or higher on the SAT would give you measurably higher chances for these schools. Do you think that you did this well on the June SAT?

Ultimately, the schools you chose would be incredibly tough to get into. I highly advise that you also chose a safety school, such as your state flagship public university.
