UPenn Math Rankings

hey guys, I might do a dual degree with the College (B.A. Mathematics).
Does anyone know anything about the quality of Penn’s math department?
Thanks

Bump...

My instict tells me that it is not very good. Does anyone have detailed info about this?

UPenn math dept is quite good. I would rank it between 8 to 12 after H, P, Y, S, M, UCB, CalTech, NYU. But actually, the diffence of the rankings is very small, since majority of mathematicians are not performing well, including those in H and P. Most of them will either leave a small mark in the math history or none at all.

For B.A., famous professors are irrelevant. The top LACs are much better in terms of undergraduate education.

If you have potential to be one of the top mathematicians, make sure you know the leaders of your field and work with them. It doesn't matter where you get your B.A. or Ph.D. If you just want to work in mathematics, them pick a top math dept. Big names can help you to get your first job.

I think its ranked in the top 20. The building sucks though (DRL).. its so far away from campus and... dirty...

David Rittenhouse Lab is more or less at the Northeast corner of campus, across the street from Hill. Convenient for engineering and the "hard" sciences as it should be.

Its only dirty because physics majors are slobs. ;)
