Gonna bump this before I leave for school, oh and just leave a link with your thread and I’ll chance back.

GPA seems a little low (I say that because most Ivy’s average GPA is 4.0), and for some colleges you listed, your SAT’s on the low side too. In the end, GPA matters more than SAT so if you get A’s this year, that will help a lot. I think your saving grace will be the rigor and your EC’s.

Depending on the community college, your may or may not get credit for it. It varies between schools.

I’m not familiar with all of the colleges you listed but I think UPenn, Cornell, and possibly Vanderbilt will be a reach ever so slightly. Certainly not impossible though. Just get some kickass recommendations and do well on the essay and you should be alright. Other than that, the rest seem like a pretty good match.
Like I said though, I’m not the most versed in the colleges you listed, so don’t consider me an expert. xD

Thanks a lot, I’ll chance you back ASAP.
BUMP.

Ivies are reaches due to low SATs / GPA (only low for ivies), but you should be able to get into all of the other schools on your list :)

Thanks…I have the opportunity to retake in December, would that be wise?

BUMP10char

I think you’re definitely into UF and BC, I’m not entirely sure about USC’s selectivity, Northwestern and Cornell are probably reaches, U of Chicago may depend on your essay because they are so writing intensive, for Dartmouth I would emphasize your community service because their new president is really big on that, and Claremont Mckenna is a target or low reach.

Thanks a lot, very helpful!
BUMP.

GPA and sat very low for ivies would def retake. Good luck

I would try to retake your SATs if you can. but two good friends of mine got into Columbia and UPenn with 2150 and 2130 respectively. But of course we take all 6 IB courses and are from an international school in singapore, so it may be different …

I took 6 too, but I was able to test out of two of them last year, that’s how I already have 2 scores…I’m probably gonna retake in December then…
Bump, anything else?

BUMP10char

BUMP10char

Oh and one other thing…I found out my school doesn’t do class ranks, but instead, we go off a county rank.
Basically, I am somewhere around 70-140/7,000 students in my county. This has been noted on my CommonApp.

Ivie’s are reaches for everyone, but you might get into one or two of them. Northwestern, Univ. of Chic, and Vanderbilt are probably high matches-low reaches. The other schools I think you’re in at.

Thanks, I’ll chance you back. BUMP.

UPenn-very high reach
Northwestern-reach
UChicago-reach
Cornell-reach
Dartmouth-reach
Vanderbilt-match
USC-low match
Boston College-low match
Claremont McKenna-reach
University of Florida-safety

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1022543-chance-me-i-promise-chance-back.html</a></p>

Sorry dude, but the Ivies are high reaches with a 1380. Very high. I’d retake them when possible and hope for the best on the ACT. Take some practice math SATs and check the ones you get wrong. That’s how I got my 800 (still in disbelief).

Everything else looks great though, and I’ll bet you get into all the other ones on your list! You seem really well-rounded!

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1023069-whaddya-think-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

That’s what I though, I’m definitely gonna retake in December now, as I’d really like to get into one of the reaches on my list, and I know I can do better on the SAT. Thanks.
I’ll chance you both back.
