UPenn Official SAS Transfers 2009 Thread

Last year the Penn transfer topic had something like 50 pages... I wonder if there are less people applying this year from here.

Does anybody know where I get the rec forms? I asked my profs. for them already, and they both said "give me the forms when you get them." I guess this isn't like HS, when the teachers would give numerous rec copies in sealed envelopes.

This thread is dying... huh, last year, the Penn Transfer thread had over 50 pages... I just spent the past hour reading through some of it.

Apparently, they do clearly sent letters in batches, with almost everybody accepted in the first batch (earliest letters). There's likely an internal, unofficial waitlist that they do take people from, but in general, the more time passes after the decisions have begun to be released, the lower your chances.

Anybody hear of anything of the sort?

bump bump?

you guys can have my spot…i’m leaving

I’ll gladly take it =)

Why are you transferring? I remember reading something about you not quite fitting in at a big research university.

I found out Penn is not very strong in my major…they don’t even offer the basic pre-rec and core courses most semesters. Basically the department looked pretty good on the website and it turns out they only have like 5 professors total.

Poli sci, right?

Can anyone salvage the Penn topic from last year with the 50 pages??

Maybe less interest mean a better chance for me :)

Better chance for US. Haha, self interest rules the day. Like always, I wish us the best of luck. There should be a checkbox on the common app for “Regularly participates on CC” with a post count fill-in next to it.

haha nope I did have trouble signing up for poli sci too now that you mention it…geology.

Ok, now I’m interested in UPenn as well as a junior, so I don’t know if tat means my high school stuff counts lesss or what, anyway…

HS GPA:3.7
Current GPA 3.8
ACT:29 SAT:1920

Plus during high school I worked about 25 hours a week on top of being in the marching band and an editor for my school newspaper. I used my work money to self finance a study abroad experience in Japan, where I lived for a year with a host family and went to a Japanese High school. At my current school (Seton Hall) I’m 5-6 clubs, plus volunteer at an animal shelter on weekends, and also volunteer as a peer councilor by phone.
I know some of my test scores aren’t stellar, but I was wondering if the other stuff, like Japan, would help. Thanks for any and all advice!!

hi everyone, i’m trying to transfer into wharton. (yes, i’m an imposter here)
but i have a general question. the common ap has three school forms: the high school counsellor’s report, the dean’s report, and the professor’s report (may be called different things).

i know we definately need the last two, but do we need the school counsellor’s report? do i have to track down my old counsellor? also, how many instructor’s reports do we need?

Detroit is the only place I’d rather live less than Philly. I don’t understand the fascination with Penn. I know it is great academically, but I would not want to spend 2-4 years in that dreadful city for any reason. My flight to Ithaca in January connects in Philly, thank God I don’t have to leave the airport. It is a shame such a ghetto city had to develop around such an excellent school. Good luck to all you transfer applicants if this is really where you want to go.

Thanks, hermann. I’m applying to Cornell for the fall as well. Mind elaborating on why exactly you hate Philly so much, and how much time you’ve spent in the city?

I personally love Philly.

It seems like a great place. I wonder why you dislike it.

Out of curiosity, when is everybody submitting their applications? I’m going to work on my essays over the winter break and submit mine mid-February at the latest.

what js1091 - you don’t have to submit sats for transfer?

If you are transferring to Wharton can I see your stats? I might want to try next year. Thanks!
