I don't get it? Harvard University was established in 1636 but its not even the oldest college according to College *******. They said The university of Pennsylvania is the oldest but it was established in 1740.

Its some S*** about Upenn Being chartered before Harvard. Making it the oldest college in The US. Even older than William && Mary! Can someone explain to me what this whole chartering thing is about because if Harvard came on this soil before any other college then what does chartering have to do with Age??

Penn emphasizes that they are the first "university" even though Harvard was founded before them because Harvard was not founded as a university.
Harvard is the first "institution of higher learning" but the University of Pennsylvania is technically the oldest "university".
