i know upenn is famous for its business program, but how does its premed program rate? is acceptance rate to med school any good? also, if you are applying to upenn thinking of being a premed major, do you apply to the college of arts and sciences or what? thanks.

Penn feeds into its own Med school, which the oldest and is ranked 4th by USNWR
Acceptance rate is 75% overall and 83% for graduating seniors.
Penn does not discourage people with low grades from applying (unlike JHU and other schools)
Like most universities, there's no "premed program", or at least I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Definately apply to CAS, because its cirricula are more flexible and more grade inflated than the others.

Hope that helps!

there is pre-med advising, and they make sure u get all the requirements. the school pours students into med schools

yeah im pretty positive ill be doing pre med since in thinking about majoring in bio, but you can do pre med and major in just about anything, like art history if you want to. just the sciences...probably give you an edge on the MCATs

Just because one majored in art history doesn't mean you cannot take science courses. MCAT is a basic exam and many students major in areas other than Bio/Chem and do very well on the exam.

yeah i know what it is. that was my point that art history majors can take the basic science classes...but im sayin if you major in a science...that section of the test will be a breeze.

I read somewhere that the average MCAT score for people going to med school that didn't have bio/chem majors is higher than for people who did major in a science. They said they think it's because the people got to focus on other interests and the pre-med part wasn't so tedious. And since they had a wider range of knowledge, they just knew more.

no. it's b/c more bio majors apply, which pushes down the average

Of the ones that get into med school?

oh, GOING to med school? i thought it was why the admit rate and average score for bio majors was lower. whoops

major in what you enjoy...med schools don't really care as long as you've gained something and have a good science and overall GPA

that said, if you love bio, major in that...but it just seems that when a med school is already getting thousands of bio major applicants, an art history major would be a fresh change

oh, and penn's pre-med program is excellent! there's so many opps for research/volunteering experience...so many peer mentoring programs and pre-med advisors...but of course, it's very difficult too!

yeah, there are so many pre-meds running around on campus. Bioengineering dept is the best engineering dept in SEAS just because of it. but then again, Penn in general is very professional-oriented.
