UPenn RD 2025

My interview went for about an hour and a half. Honestly, it went amazing. It was a casual but deep conversation and we both had a very good time. She told me she gave me the highest possible marks and wrote me a glowing letter of rec. Even with this my hopes are low due to the selectivity of the school. Also she asked very little about specific academic activity.

I know right? WTH why he asking for my grades

kind of absurd and extremely unprofessional imo - i would call up admissions and let them know (not just for yourself but for people in the future who could possibly have to deal with the same thing)

Thank you all for sharing, first of all, I wish you guys good luck and good results in two days.
But I just wanted to add, (not to be racist or anything), I literally can not understand what he was saying more than half of the time, he seems so tired and it was really a difficult 2 hours, especially in the morning. Anyhow, i guess its a learning experience for me, oh well, it is what it is.

My Penn interview was the worst out of the 4 interviews I had. Granted I could have answered some of the questions a little stronger but I felt like my interviewer didn’t ask many follow ups and she seemed pretty tired. Mine was about half an hour, which was the shortest. Definitely didn’t sell the school for me very well

This is solely depends on interviewers. Don’t worry, they won’t count much and won’t hurt you anyway. My Cornell interview only lasted for 21 minutes. I couldn’t hear most of what the guy said because he didn’t even bother to prepare himself a microphone to make sure he was audible. He was being really harsh and asked me questions like why Cornell instead of other schools and when I explained to him a course I discovered, he said he knew a same course in another institution. Like I did not learn anything about Cornell after the conversation, and he made me to feel how I DID NOT know Cornell with lots of criticism.

for yale, mine was a bit over an hour
for Penn, it was around 45 minutes-ish (I think…this was a while ago)

but i think it was bc he sort of went into a rant since we were talking about philosophy haha

Ah hahaha, but it’s a pretty good length. It depends a lot on the interviewer and the subject - my Dartmouth interview, for instance, lasted almost two hours, but it was because we talked a lot about Chinese economics.

oh yeah for sure, there are so many variables with interviews. nice topic though, that’s very interesting and potentially controversial-love it. I’m sure we’ll end up somewhere great in the end, but luck to you mate

I really liked my Penn interviewer and even emailed him back with a “homework assignment” that he gave me to research something, although the interview was only 25 minutes.

Yeah, The Penn AO took our fun away. They shut down the portal. (which was actually pretty smart of them.
