I guess with everything remote they don’t need to be! That may make for an interesting perspective though, both for your daughter and her interviewer!
I’ve only been contacted by 2/7 Ivys for interviews. I thought they said that 90% of applicants get interviews, wierd
Interviews are based on interviewer availability. Applications are through the roof. The increase in interviewers has not kept pace. Simple supply and demand.
I just checked with my S21. His interviewer is based somewhere on the East Coast (based on the timestamp of the interviewer’s response to him after the initial email) though he is not sure exactly where the interviewer is based. Given the virtual nature of interviews this year, the regional aspect appears to not be a factor or a necessity. I do think it is better if the interviewer is in the same type of field as the student’s interest, but that has not been my son’s experience, though his interviews have overall been quite positive regardless.
My son has not been contacted for an interview from UPenn… however he did get an interview with MIT which is his dream school. I really think it boils down to availability and with 55k applicants it is a lottery.
Same for my son he is a pre-med/physics major and his interviewer for MIT had a degree in social work… she couldn’t answer any questions he had and her questions were basically how do you make world peace. He made the best of it.
hey all! i’m from iowa and i got an interview about a week or two ago. my interviewer was based in pennsylvania i believe and she was super sweet. she asked the basic “what have you been doing this year?” “what classes/organizations?” and “why upenn?” questions. she did ask if i had any specific professors or classes i was interested in because that looks good on a letter from an interviewer, but i definitely wasn’t expecting her to be so forward about it lol, although she was super nice and understanding about it. afterwards we chatted about the writers house at upenn and some other stuff. dunno if this will be of any help to anyone, but there you go!
My daughter finally had her interview today! We live about an hour from Philly…
Her interviewer lives in Tennessee!
Same with my son. We haven’t heard anyone in our school got interview frm Columbia yet.
When did her interviewer reach out to her
@GoPanthers007 about 10 days ago…
Do you think Penn will still interview people in March? Also, do the AOs actually read personal updates that are uploaded to the portal?
If the file has already made it through the readers and the committee, and a decision has been made, I doubt they’ll go back and do all that over again if the interviewer’s write-up suddenly shows up.
Someone on reddit said UPenn sent out likely letters. Is that true? Has anyone gotten one?
What does that mean - that UPenn sent letters saying they are “likely” to admit them?
Yes, elite private institutions send out a handful of likely letters to non-athletes. The majority of people do not get a likely letter, so no one should be expecting/waiting for one.
To me, “You are likely to be admitted” sounds like “You could win the Powerball”. It is not a promise or bind.
I’m pretty sure that everyone who receives a likely letter gets into the college unless their grades drop tremendously or they get in trouble. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a likely letter and then not getting in. This is because likely letters are reserved for each college’s top 1% of applicants.
Glad to hear that.
If you look in Service Academy forum, you will see many applicants received Likely letters but did not admit eventually.
Neither is an acceptance letter. It too is conditional.
