I guess that we should start a thread for all the RD applicants. I found some questions on Princeton’s EA thread. I guess that it’s a good way to help us get to know each other
Why are you applying to UPenn?
What draws you to UPenn?
Which program are you applying to?
Where did you apply for EA?
What are your qualifications?
What is your intended major?
What are your hobbies/interests/extracurriculars?
What tips/advice do you have for applying?
Best of luck guys! I know that y’all are going to kill it
1)was deffered from Columbia ED
2)its academics (specifically in the Wharton school of finance)
3)Wharton
4)Columbia
5)objectively, I have good test scores and a decent GPA. Subjectively, I believe that I an a well rounded person who participates in multiple activities and has leadership in them (sports, clubs and what not)
6)Business economics and public policy
7) track, stock club and others
8). Show that you are really interested in Upenn and are not applying just because it is a school with an excellent reputation.
I’m applying to UPenn because I just really love the school, I visited and it just seemed so right for me there. I love Philadelphia and I really could see myself spending 4 years there, not just because it’s an Ivy League school, but because I genuinely love it.
The campus, the programs, the surrounding area… Also I could not find another school that has a program for undergraduate artificial intelligence. At any other school, I’ll have to sort of make up the major myself or double major in comp sci and cog sci somehow.
Dual degree for computer science and artificial intelligence
I applied to safety schools EA
My GPA and rank are my weakest point because I missed a lot of school due to illness during junior year. My GC explained it in her rec so I’m hoping that makes up for it a little bit. I rank just out of top 10% and I’m afraid that’s an automatic rejection right there My SAT currently stands at a 2180, but I retook it this weekend and I felt like I improved a lot so I’m hoping for the best.
I like how we skipped 6 lol
Like I said, I’m applying for the AI program. I’m very nervous and I don’t think I will have too good of a shot getting in, especially because I’m applying to the dual degree. I don’t know if it’s much more competitive or not than the other programs.
I did a lot of work in my community to help encourage more girls to enter computer science. I sing, I play two sports, I have published research, and I’m the captain of the robotics team and math team. I do lots of other stuff too but I don’t feel like listing, check out my chance threads if you wanna know more about me.
I guess by now you can’t really change your GPA/scores, so I guess what I would say is to really nail the essays. It’s the only thing you have control of now.
Like I said, I’m not too confident about my chances here. But I’m gonna post so that on the off chance I do get in, I’ll have some friends already
Good luck <3
@jarrett211 I definitely agree. I think that the early and regular yield the same result of accepted people. There are more who apply regular, but many do not have profiles of a competitive ivy league applicant. I know some people in my school apply regular, thinking that UPenn is Penn State.
@ihcany Exactly. For me personally, even though I applied early decision and was deferred, I am not giving up hope yet. There is still a chance I can be admitted RD, and I will try to do whatever possible to make that happen when I send them my deferred applicant update. And they know I applied early so that should count for something. Also, I have legacy which I know doesn’t count much for RD, but hey you never know. All in all, with an 11% acceptance rate for deferred applicants, I am going to keep trying for it. You never know what may happen.
@TheWaffleMan149 Actually, I just realized I messed up in my math my bad. I was missing a variable lol. Whatever. It doesn’t really matter.
err, nursing undergrad, my cousin goes there and the campus was amazing!
nursing hahaha
no where
My ACT score is really good imo (35) but my GPA is more meh. hopefully essays were good!
…guess lol (hint: it has something to do with nursing)
lots of clinical volunteering, I like reddit and League of Legends
honestly, just put in as much as you can into the app, and when you get accepted into ___ college, it’s not just about the college name. it’s also about what you personally get from the university
Deferred from CAS ED at Penn. Here I am, again, though this time I now have an account instead of just being a lurker.
I love love love my major (HSOC) and being a pre-med, the proximity to CHOP and the University hospital is so valuable. Also, I love Philly!
CAS, major in HSOC
Rolling admissions at UMN Twin Cities – accepted with Honors and qualifications for in-state (I’m from SoCal). EA at Fordham, got a likely letter.
Uhh… stats wise? I have a 2290 and a 3.92 UW GPA.
HSOC
EC’s: Editor-in-Chief of paper, President of community service club and a tutoring club, treasurer of Make a Wish foundation club. I also intern at the UCLA Medical Center and volunteer there as well (my school makes semesterly internships mandatory for seniors) and work as a private tutor. As for hobbies, I am a chronic Netflix binge watcher, I jog every morning and after school, and I write in my spare time. Lately, since school has been relatively calmer, I’ve been going out to the city (and The Valley, for you Californians out there…) more often with my friends!
Give your 100% into each app and essay. Seriously.
Applied ED CAS and got deferred.
I am an international student from China, and I knew because China is overrepresented, it would be difficult to get in.
My intended major is linguistics.
I love languages! I managed Japanese Club and Translation Club at school. I also held two school official Japanese elective courses through which other students got credit. Haha, also learned a bit Korean, Spanish, French. Favorite hobbies? Reading visual novels. Also love anime, comic and game.
Why Penn? I like the linguistics department and I enjoy reading their language log!
Tip: Just hang in there! Hope people here will all receive fruitful offers.
