@ShaunakK98 My college counselor spoke with the admissions officer
Hey, I’m applying to the School of the Arts & Sciences (my intended major being comparative literature) at UPenn, not only because I love the comp lit program there, but also because I love the UPenn vibe — one of their culture magazines, the 34th Street magazine, is hilarious, and although this may be stretching things, everyone I know who goes to Penn just seems so laidback and chill. I also want to be a part of the Kelly Writers House, where writers can collaborate and make the most interesting projects (I remember some students hosted a Kanye West Fest?).
I applied to Princeton SCEA but was deferred. I swim, I play the violin, I run a tutoring program, I write, and I read about space. A tip? None except just relax and have a good time. Life’s too short to fuss over some decisions.
@memelover Hi fellow violinist! Sorry this is so irrelevant.
I tutor and love astronomy too
Hey guys, after a long talk with my family and my counselors, I decided that I will no longer be applying to Penn as I will be attending my safety school. I really love the school and although I will miss Penn, I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully I’ve opened up a spot for one of you!
You will be missed @anon9362 !!
On another note, does anyone know if Penn wait lists deferred ED applicants???
@SylvRsr Hey! Yeah, space is really cool and stuff… Congrats on the UPenn acceptance, btw!
@TheWaffleMan149 I think I read somewhere that deferred students will either be rejected or accepted, but not waitlisted. I could be wrong
@memelover Thank you!! Good luck to you in the RD round
That moment when you realize the acceptance rate for SEAS is 4.96%…and I applied to SEAS. Why, just why
I’m not sure if this is a dumb question but on the Penn checklist it says the mid-year grades are required by january 5th, but my school doesn’t have midterms until january 19th. Just for confirmation, I can send them in after midterms are finished right?
@chocat I don’t think so. If they say mid year report is due Jan 5- then I believe it is due Jan 5. Most schools will just send a copy of your transcript and grades (avg) to date. Talk to your guidance dept. -they will know what to do for sure or you can call Penn and ask, but I wouldn’t just wait until the 19th.
I agree with @runswimyoga
I would ask your counselor and make sure he/she submits it on time
JUST KIDDING GUYS I got my December SAT score back today and I was all set and excited to go to my safety school but then I opened it and I got a 2300 so it looks like I’m gonna be throwing myself back at Penn!
I’M BACK
@anon9362 WELCOME BACK
Guys we have to get this thread going like the ED one
-
Why are you applying to UPenn?
-
What draws you to UPenn?
-
Which program are you applying to?
-
Where did you apply for EA?
-
What are your qualifications?
-
What is your intended major?
-
What are your hobbies/interests/extracurriculars?
-
What tips/advice do you have for applying?
-
Philadelphia itself is almost a dream destination for me, so much so that I’ve been specifically looking for safe schools in the area. (I’ve live in Suburbia, Florida, for 17 years, so this is a big step for me.) As for Penn itself, the neuroscience program looks amazing, along with just about everything else community-wise. I want a college where I can pursue the wide variety of things that excite me, and Penn seems like the kind of place to do so.
-
Not sure how to answer this differently from the first, really.
-
CAS
-
Nowhere, though I wish I had.
-
The scores have always been good. I have a 2260 on the SAT and a pretty good GPA. I’ve been told that I write essays well but that doesn’t really count for much if the admissions people don’t agree. I feel like my weakness comes out in extracurriculars. I do band, Model UN, and competitive trivia, but I’ve only ever held a minor leadership position in any of them.
-
About 50, but it depends on who you ask.
-
History, but it’s really up in the air.
-
I essentially covered extracurriculars in #5. I’m a decent Marimbist, a history buff, and am interested in just about anything to do with the human condition.
-
Well, since we’re at this stage, the best I can say is to accept whatever happens before it happens. Try your hardest in these final stretches to get accepted, but acknowledge that it may not happen. Not getting accepted into Penn, or some other dream school, is not anywhere near the end of the road. If you go into essay writing in these stages believing that your life hinges on whether you get accepted, you’ll end up over-stressing and under-performing.
- Why are you applying to UPenn?
Good for business and it looks like it has the best social life - What draws you to UPenn?
^ - Which program are you applying to? CAS or Wharton
- Where did you apply for EA?
I was too lazy to apply EA anywhere - What are your qualifications?
Like a 4.6 w gpa, 3.98 uw, 34 ACT - What is your intended major?
Economics - What are your hobbies/interests/extracurriculars?
Internship working with small businesses
Tutoring
Like a thousand hours of volunteering - What tips/advice do you have for applying?
@anon9362 Did you end up improving your SAT Score?
Nah…I got 2000 SAT, but 45 in IB + I am international, so they do not expect me to score as much as you guys (your school system has been preparing you for SAT for years, you have teacher and tutors…I had 2 days and the blue book :D)
@ARTPOP trust me, school didn’t prepare me for SAT at all haha…
I did do a summer thing though and did a ton of practice tests, but I ended up doing better on the ACT and SAT lol
I was too cheap to pay for another SAT and ACT…but I really do rely on the fact that I will be the only one applying from my country, on that FULL IB, cool EC’s …plus the fact that I just took one SAT…do you think it’s better when u scored well on your very first test being international?
@ARTPOP which country are you from?
