Penn admissions said they are only sending LLs to nursing applicants this year
Where’d you hear that

If offered a WL spot, you can choose to accept or decline and move on. If you accept, the schools usually keep the list “live” until about mid June to July – it depends on the school. Many times, the college never even dips to anyone on the WL list. It all depends on how the 1st round of admitees are behaving.
If you accept a WL spot (you can accept more than one, simultaneously), you should still proceed as if it were a rejection, i.e. accept the best offer from your other acceptances. Make deposits, attend orientation, etc. If you happen to luck out and a WL school approaches you, see what that offer entails. You’re not BOUND to accept the WL offer. If it looks good, you accept and then turn down the 1st school you accepted. That’s 100% fine.
Even more strangely, let’s say a SECOND WL school approaches you later with a better offer than the 1st WL school. At that point, you can STILL accept the 2nd WL offer and decline the first WL offer.
Remember, being on WLs is not binding should a offer come later.
I called admissions this morning
@Barzaboy did they say what the reason was behind this? I can’t imagine why penn wouldn’t want to have more time to recruit their top applicants.
@kuriosmind they did not say why
Maybe they decided that it wasn’t worthwhile in the past??
@TheWaffleMan149 True. I think most students already have a list made up in their minds and if Penn isn’t their top choice, a LL won’t change anything. I’ve recently fallen in love with Penn though, because my alum interviewer was so amazing and I really love the Penn spirit. Too bad my chances of getting accepted is so slim…
@kuriosmind me toooo! I was originally set on UCLA, but the more I learned about Penn the more I fell in love with it haha…
Hey guys!! So I have been stalking this thread for a while and I really want to get into Penn. I want some second opinions to ease the stress of waiting!!! I applied to SEAS Pre-Mechanical Engineering, but sadly I have a 31 ACT (31 in every category lol) and I know that is sort-of low. My GPA is a 4.89 weighted and a 3.89 unweighted and I am rank 20/436 in my class (very competitive high school)! I am originally from Pennsylvania and moved to the South and my essays consisted of overcoming social barriers and being a social outcast and how to overcome new situations. My Penn essay was extremely specific to Penn. My interview went extremely well, but I still do not know how my chances look. Just from experience and those who believe they really have a shot give me some feedback please!!!
Good luck to all of you! I’ve enjoyed lurking this thread and am excited to be involved!
also 9 APs throughout high school and 8 honors. My EC is that I work about 20-30 hours a week at an Outback Steakhouse :)! I was regionally certified as a trainer in my position and I am one of the youngest in my region to hold that position. Besides that my ECs are boring and eh
@bjones1782 Your ACT scores, you know, aren’t quite there. But if you have an extremely unique background story and a couple impressive ECs, you have as good a shot as any. I hope you get in. keep us updated!
Do you really think my act will hurt me that much? I think my background is good and is slightly impressive but nothing compared to some. I heard 31 is low end of middle 50% in SEAS. Ughhh I hate standardized testssssss. It stinks to have intelligence measured by a test score. I hate them so much XD @rahuilmars231
Standardized test scores are the way that colleges can compare people from different schools with different experiences. The admissions officers wont be able to know that your school grades hard and another school grades easy-except in a handful of cases. For the most part they look at you GPA and say okay they did well at this school, but then theres the idea of grade inflation or deflation. Standardized testing is the best way to compare people from different schools without it being up to the readers interpretation like the essays are. So i do believe that 31 will hurt you, and the majority of people that get in when they are near or below the bottom 25th percentile have a strong hook with them.
@lhd512 thank you for your honesty. A girl from my highschool got accepted ED to Wharton with a 33 with alright ECs and she’s close in class rank. Hopefully essays and interview will pull through, but if not oh well. Other offers on the table
Got a likely letter from UPenn too (applied to nursing!!!) I am so excited. Who else got a likely from nursing?! Good luck to everyone else too!!!
Congrats @RunnerGirl2213! When did you get your likely letter? Was your email sent on Tuesday like several others here on this thread?
Yes March 1st… I’m just late sorry!!
@RunnerGirl2213 That’s lovely! congrats
