@ Ringer01- in general- doubtful. The Ivies are bound by the agreement to post only on a specific date. The only Ivy that may potentially post early may be Cornell, because they have multiple schools within the college, and one may notify sooner ( the hospitality college- can’t remember the name). However, Cornell’s CAS and Engineering will only post 3/31.
@Ringer01 As far as I know, all the Ivies announce their results together, and any prior info is only via likely letters to a few applicants.
@Ringer01 the info that @momofdgts wrote is correct. Two of the Cornell schools and Penn’s nursing school are the only Ivy-related schools not bound by the joint Ivy agreement which states that all eight announce admit offers on the same day (with LLs and EA/ED being the exception).
Funny thing about the wording is that the Ivies are actually allowed to announce rejections at any time. But no school does that. Also another curiosity: decades ago, some Ivies would send selected students a post card which said “Likely to be admitted” and also to some others “Unlikely to be admitted”. Can you imagine that? hahahaha
One last fun fact: “Ivy Day” has shifted over time. Now, it’s late March or early April. When I was in HS, my notification letters were dated April 14th and didn’t arrive to me via post until April 18th and 19th!
Upenn interviews are really restricted in my country. Unless this fact, I was offered one of them and I had and interview via skype. Is it , at least, a postie sign? Since my friends were not offered any interview. Does it have any meaning or it’s just a coincidence?
@Monster1997 there are mixed opinions over this but i guess it would be more beneficial to have an interview at least the admission committee would be able to get insight of your personality and of course know about the heights of your self confidence etc. But on the other hand, i had a 2 hours long interview with a MIT alumni for MIT admission and have done work in technological field but was rejected from there as well. So you know…
I meant the difference is that MIT interviews are just available for people all over the world but the Upenn is different. I don’t know what it means but at least, I’m happy to have one
@Monster1997 yeah u r right! And don’t worry u will get a positive result. Btw i had an interview as well for M and T program. Fingers crossed, let’s wait and see.
@hiptobeacircle I mean, it’s possible, but in the same realm of possibility as anyone’s chances considering many people have 800s on multiple tests applying to this school.
Hey Guys! I have a major question. I am an international applicant and although I knew that Penn “strongly” suggests overseas students to take TOEFL, I didn’t & instead submitted my IELTS score which is 8.0 (out of 9). Does this hurt my application in any way?
Not at aĺl. I think they consider IETLS as well as TOEFL. I took TOEFL but I think it’s not a big deal
@hiptobeacircle No, it’s more than 800 – it’s 850! :3 Last time I checked, a 850 is impossible, so yes, it’s definitely more impressive than any lame 800.
The mayors scholarship is for Philly HS grads. UPenn has agreement with the city to take so many graduates of Philadelphia schools. I think the number is 175.
At this point there are maybe 10 to 100 waitlist spots max. There are thousands that chose to accept the waitlist. How the University picks is a crap shoot. So do not hold your breath for this U if you are in this circumstance. Look at your offers and take the best financial offer and best U after March 31 results. Remember there is less aid at the grad school level. So if planning that law, mba or medical school future you will be in heavy debt after that experience.
Can anyone chance me? Applied to PPE at Penn.

Was watching this video giving advice on writing PENN application essays. Apparently, the essays that show “appreciation towards the flexibility of PENN curriculum”, especially the fact that students can take courses in all four undergraduate schools are favored. This blog post pretty much screwed me over - I demonstrated my interest towards my intended majors only, and I really doubt I can get into PENN now. Maybe I’m just being nervous. In addition to that, all my EC and essays pretty much concentrate on my major; not that I think about it, my app doesn’t show the curiosity or flexibility or the spirit of dynamic learning PENN appreciates. So yeah… GG. I can just see myself rejected from PENN lol. Good luck to everyone else!
@Extra0dinary Don’t lose hope! Schools review applications comprehensively. They won’t reject you just because you didn’t demonstrate interdisciplinary interest.
By the way, can you give the link to that video? Thank you!
@BrownPlsThx I think this is the one that @Extra0dinary was talking about
