I’m applying to Penn because their programs, specifically in physics, mathematics, and sociology/population dynamics all construct who I am and what my main interests are.
I am drawn to Penn due to its extensive collection of student-run organizations. I intend to take part in many of these.
3)Arts and Sciences: Physics, with maybe a Sociology Minor (may sound strange, but explained well in Why Penn essay)
I have a decent GPA (4.0 UW, Straight A’s) and have also received 5’s on all my AP tests I have taken. I have good awards like Governors School and State Science Fair Physics Winner. However, my SATs are not the strongest at all (2250), which is considerably lower than others applying in my school with a lower GPA (A’s/B’s), and I am not a National Merit Semifinalist .
Sttesuhcassam Technological Institute sadly does not exist, that is why there is no number 6.
Major = Physics, Minor = Sociology.
I started regionally and nationally recognized blog on future transportation ideas. I also play trombone at high levels, and won numerous Science Fair Awards. Volunteering is maybe average for Penn. Only one in-school leadership position, but a lot of leadership out of school.
Work on essays, and make sure they connect your EC’s together into one cohesive, yet personal, work of art. (At least that is what I did, we will see if it will work out.)
@gearsstudio that’s how I did it! I think I said this in an above comment, but for me, I’m applying to Penn for nursing… so my essay was more of a “why nursing AT Penn” (versus nursing at other schools)
@cohs2016 Oh, nice! Did this happen to anyone else?
I interviewed with WashU and UChicago and they all went really well and I really want the opportunity to be able to interview with penn.
@gearsstudio IMO, I would make the essay more about Why Penn and less about why your major… Penn will be able to deduce from your Why Penn and your whole application about why your major… but remember to really research Why Penn from Penn’s website naming specific programs, classes, clubs, professors and most importantly ideologies that are prevalent at Penn that contribute to your reasons for Why Penn…
Currently panicking because I logged on to my penn portal thing and it says that I’m missing a recommendation letter. My school uses Naviance and my guidance counselor told me that every gets sent all at once. I have both letters in Naviance but only one sent.
