UPenn RD Class of 2022 Discussion

This is intended for UPenn Reguar Decision discussions.

ahhhhh I’m so scared. Penn is my dream school but the FA scared me away from ED sigh. I’d love to be able to get to know some fellow prospective quakers so don’t be shy

SUP? We can be scared together. Glad my app is finally done and submitted. Now we just wait it out.

Really hope that I get in. I withdrew my Early Decision application to another school because of a visit to Penn that made me fall in love with the school, so I have a lot riding on this decision. I never expected to attend college in-state, as I’m from PA, but I’d being willing to do so if I get into Penn. My hopes are low, as no one from my hs has gotten accepted in a few years, so we’ll see. What school are you guys applying to? I’m a CAS applicant.

Ahh! Applied to School of Nursing. Hope I make it :frowning:

@summerhazed I applied to CAS too! I’m a Romance Languages major hbu?

CAS applicant here! Like @musicandscience, I also shied away from Penn ED last spring due to FA worries. I’m also applying for KWH recruitment and sent in my survey and portfolio about a week ago. I’m really proud of my Why Penn, and I hope they see from its specificity that I really want to go here and I’m not just copying and pasting a “fill-in-the-blank” Why School from my other apps like people who shotgun do.

It’s awesome that you’re so passionate about writing @writergirl0316 … I’m really hoping that my Why Penn Essay doesn’t sound like a fill in the blank. I worked really hard on it but who knows if that’ll be enough  I was about to start another thread asking about art supplements but I guess I’ll ask her first:

Visual art is a hobby of mine. I only do it independently as a way to relax and as a sort of outlet. BUT I’ve been told by many that I’m actually pretty good at it. It is an important hobby to me but I’m not sure if I should show that to UPenn via an Arts supplement. any suggestions?

@musicandscience I’m applying as undecided-social science because honestly I have no idea what to study. However, I’m leaning towards international relations or economics.

Lol I’m working on my Why Penn essay now and luckily we have a snow day tomorrow so I still have time. I might have to get rid of GWU, though, since it’s also due tomorrow. I honestly don’t understand why I wait until the last minute to do things, but oh well, can’t do anything about that

@musicandscience I’d say submit an Arts supplement. Even if you’re not the best at it, it’ll show passion and dedication that most other applicants will not convey, plus add a new perspective to who you are and what you do.

My Why Penn essay ended up being surprisingly awesome. CAS-Cognitive science

@summerhazed ahahaha I am the same way don’t worry. and yea the snow days are definitely giving me much needed time. About to go shovel :((( and thanks for your input! I was thinking the same thing

Glad to hear it! @Dankjewel (sweet username) I’m pretty interested in Cognitive Science too! I’d definitely consider minoring in it if I get in

@musicandscience It means thank you very much in Dutch

Ahhh currently finishing up my CAS essay…not sure how creative mine is but it is genuine! Applying as a chemistry major

I really regret not framing my Chicago essays around my ECs (volunteering for Duolingo/working for Electronic Arts). Hopefully it works this time, although I’ll be very salty that I don’t get into Chicago (I can always transfer or use the acceptance as a bargaining chip for waitlist).

Actually, although I like all the schools I am applying to, I hope I get into an Ivy+ for the sake of just transferring to Chicago (unless I get into Penn or Columbia. That’d be a predicament)

I’m already thinking of transferring too, because I don’t really like many of the schools I’m applying to. I do love Penn and Columbia, which are my top two choices, but they’ll almost certainly reject me. The other top schools on my list (Georgetown, WashU, Johns Hopkins, Emory) are okay, but I really don’t think they are good fits for me. A lot of the schools I took off my list because of deadlines (Princeton, Yale, Northwestern, Stanford) and I never really got the chance to consider them, so the idea of transferring to one of them is tempting. And I’d probably try to transfer to Chicago as well, since I kinda regret withdrawing that app.

I hate the college application process so much because I have not gotten into college yet, only one deferral, so I honestly don’t know if I’m a good enough applicant or not. My one safety/match school’s decision comes out at the end of the month and I’m honestly freaking out about that one, that’s how stressed I am

I wouldn’t send the performing and visual arts supplement unless you’re really, really good at what you do. I mean, so amazing that what they see or hear will sway the ones making the decisions into admitting you. My GC said that the performing and visual arts supplement is actually looked at by experts and given a score by them. If what you’ve sent in isn’t that hot, it could get you denied. These are top schools. Everything needs to be kick A. Just my opinion…

@summerhazed Chicago only accepts <20 transfer applicants per year. You NEED to go to AT LEAST UVA to transfer there from what I know.

And then if you don’t go to an Ivy, you have to write kickass essays that’ll make AOs cry

I don’t really care about Chicago that much, I’m just slightly considering it. I’d probably hate it, but it’s good to keep my options open. Hopefully I get into either Penn or Columbia so I won’t have to transfer.

Also, I don’t really think going to a top school would help you get in, and you’d need a damn good reason to transfer to Chicago if you’re already at a top notch school.
