Earlier today, I got accepted into UPenn SAAST for Engineering Complex Networks. I was wondering if anyone has participated in this program before and what his or her experiences were like, both in terms of rigor and prestige. For example, how does it compare with COSMOS?

I also applied Complex Networks, butI am on the waitlist right now. Would you mind to share your objective and subjective information?
To answer your question, I would say the SAAST might be less selected than COSMOS, but it is also an intensive program.

Sure. My current unweighted GPA is 3.98. I am a sophomore. I think what helped the me the most were my essays. One of them covered a research project I did for my Math Class. Good luck with your admissions.

Congrats!! I went to SAAST for comp sci last year. Best. Summer. Of. My. Life.

I am so worried…><

I applied to Nanotech, and saast said that we have to wait 3 weeks to get the decision…
But it’s been more than three weeks!!! And I’m still not getting my result!!

When I email UPenn, after 3 days I still didn’t get a reply…

OMG…

Congrats @GodHypnosis! I too got accepted into SAAST 2014 for Computer Science!

I was fortunate enough to participate in COSMOS at UC Davis last year as well and I would have to say that it was the best summer of my life yet. I don’t know how SAAST will be able to top my experience at COSMOS. I am not sure about the difference in level of prestige between the programs but I have a feeling that the rigor at SAAST will be heavier than that of at COSMOS. COSMOS is an enrichment program that has no grades. SAAST is for a grade and possible college credit; there will be quizzes, tests, exams, and assignments. But don’t let a grade ruin your summer. You can only use this college credit if you end up going to UPenn. I don’t think its transferable to other colleges.

But no matter what, I believe you’ll have a great time at SAAST; I’ve heard great things about SAAST. And since you know about COSMOS, do you live in California? COSMOS is more of a California thing. I don’t think anyone, or at least no one I knew, from COSMOS at UC Davis last year was from outside the state. I’m flying from California to Pennsylvania this summer so this should be interesting.

Anyways I hope we get a chance to meet each other at SAAST and good luck to anyone else that is applying/waiting for a response!
