I love Penn, but could never get in. It would be the perfect place for me...Ok, so then I'm trying to find other universities in the east or Midwest that resemble Penn, academically and socially

Northwestern?

Yeah, ive looked into both northwestern and northeastern...and i have northeastern as a reach...northwestern would be "dream"

Michigan, Wisconsin, Boston U., U of Rochester, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Georgetown, U of Chicago, Washington U., Vanderbilt, Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon.

No state university is going to have the same social vibe as Penn. Apples and oranges. Same with academics. Definite pluses in both columns, but very different.

What tier of school are you looking for?

MOWC, have you ever been on the Michigan or Wisconsin campuses?

Northeastern is a reach for you? What are your stats?

Northeastern reach? Your stats have to be wayyy low.

I have been on Michigan and Wisconsin campuses for a number of weekends and go to Penn - there is a clear difference in feeling.

dark blue's a sweetheart ;)

I'm just saying if you want a school like UPenn, Northeastern is not the way to go. They're not even in the same league.

can we know your stats?

Cornell? But if you describe getting into Penn as day dreaming, getting into Cornell would be too.

I have been on both the Michigan and Wisconsin campuses. I am a Big Ten grad myself. I am a big fan of the Big Ten schools, but there is no similarity between Penn and any of them. I am pretty vocal in my criticisms of Penn and also recognize the strengths, so don't take anything I say as knocking public universities. Penn has a unique combination of gritty urban life, a defined campus and an elitist vibe. It wouldn't work for me, but it does for my kid.

Maybe Berkeley if you substitute the Asian population for the Jewish population???

Posting your stats would be a start...
