Has anyone taken the Penn Summer Mathematics Academy?
How was it / How competitive are the admissions / Any reflections on the program?
Or if someone has heard about the program from others, could you share their experience?
This might not be very helpful, but I did the Social Justice Academy last summer. They told us that there was an overall acceptance rate of around 17%, although that includes the longer Pre-College Program which had much fewer students. In my opinion, it was really well-structured and well-done. Summer Discovery is generally great at high school summer programs, and there were a lot of fun things to do at other times. My academy at least was taught by a genuine Penn professor, and the TAs were either other professors or supremely competent graduate students (I mean, they were students at Penn). It wasn’t like a summer camp, you were genuinely taking a class; for all the academies, there was a lot of homework, and numerous final projects. I still found it insanely rewarding, however.
@midwestern538 do you think you need very high PSAT scores and GPA?
I’m so sorry this is fairly late! I had a 1490 PSAT, 34 ACT, and 3.9 GPA when I applied, but they probably would have overlooked lower ones with exceptional essays
